E-Class (W213) [Spyshots] 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W213)


The W213 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the fifth generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, sold from 2016 as a 2017 model. It succeeded the W212/S212 E-Class models. The coupe/convertible models share the same platform as the sedan/wagon, in contrast to the previous generation. The high-performance Mercedes-AMG E63 and E63S versions of the W213 have been available as well from 2016 (as a 2017 model), and these are the only versions with V8 engines.

Hmm, I was under the impression that the V8 had more than 450 hp....

You guys have any idea about the weight saving for the E? That will play a major part in this. I mean, with a 430 hp I6 the engine itself will be lighter than the similarly powered V8, and with a lighter W213 chassis compared to W212 it will probably work out just fine with 430 hp.
 
It appears the 2016 E-Class will share light clusters with the GLE, the outline shape is almost identical it seems.. another move that will give the E it`s own subtle identity from the S and C. This E might have a slight angry look to it

I really hope the hood shutline will be like the GLE too!Nlooks like it judging by the spy shots. The era of fugly hood shutlines is slowly coming to an end. Good riddance.
 
I HOPE it launches with the new engines. MB needs to be ensure they're competitive with the engine lineup from the onset. Engines and gearbox have been a stumbling block for too long.

That said they better test the hell out of it.

The technical risk is so, so much lower when they stagger the introduction of new bodystyles and drivetrains. Given the teething issues of the S-class and C-class, I'd MUCH rather them focus on reliability.

Yep, the A-Pillar runs along into the hood, just like the GLE. That will look pretty sharp on the E

Fifteen years ago you had to get a V12 for 400+ HP. Now we're like 430 HP from a V6/I6? That's not enough :D.

If the MB will have 430 hp, the new 550i is going to destroy it, because it will be much lighter and more powerful. And also switching to I6 apparently.

Edit; 15 years ago the V12 had around the power of the little A45 4 pot.
And 15 years ago they didn't put a turbo or two on every engine.
 
It is rare for them to do that, but they have done it before. The camo seems to be coming off faster than usual, it is possible we might see this car at Frankfurt instead of Geneva 2016?

Yeah actually the W124 debuted the then new 3.0ltr straight six to replace the long standing and well known 2.8 twin cam straight six, so hopefully this time they will follow in its footsteps and do the same and launch this new straight six also in 2016. The W213 should be in the dealers in March 2016 unless Mercedes delay the launch of the car by a few months like they did with the S-class.
 
I find it extremely exiting to finally see the return of the Inline 6 at MB. V6 engines suck and are not worthy for Mercedes.

Me too. Here's hoping the new-gen diesels are launched at the same time - MB are waaay behind on Diesel tech.

I reckon the next 550i will have about 476hp (350kw) to 503hp (370kw) and so they will need to have an E500 to compete for sure maybe it will have the 4.0ltr AMG V8 same spec as C63 (476hp).
 
The uninterupted shoulder line appears to successfully reduce the rear flank mass that make other more recent M-Bs' appear a bit "pudgy" aft the B-pillars. Promises to be M-Bs' most visually appealing sedan. And the coupe/cabriolet derivatives may just be sublime.

Yeah, the next 550i might ditch the V8, but it will not loose power. And currently it's at 450 hp.

I think the E500 will be similarly powered. They are not going to allow a 50 hp gap.

It will likely be between 450 and 500 hp. A gain over the current 550i and not more than 500 hp imo.
Rumors point towards around 470 hp. And the I6 part is not yet confirmed, but where there is smoke there is fire.

Same with me I am really happy and excited for Mercedes to bring back the straight six, it will remind of the golden days of 1970's and 1980's where BMW and Mercedes straight six engines were world class and renowned for the amazing refinement and delicious sound.
 
With the star in the middle of the grill, this E-class certainly appears far more sportier than the W212. The styling is starting to look better now some of the disguise is coming off. I do think the back and front lights will appear slightly different to the C and S-class so hopefully its not copy paste.
 
^^^ Well the S Class now has the quad-eyed look, as does the C, GLE when you have the full LEDs...
 
You are correct but not quite. The W213 will indeed have a very prominent and true quad-eyed look - differentiating it from the rest of the lineup. It will be an evolution of the W212 facelift.
Nope. The new w213 looks nothing like the w212 especially from the back
 
it would make a cool statement if it retains the quad-eyed LED look, it looks amazing on the current facelift E, it really makes you look twice.
