CLS [Spyshots] 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS Facelift SpyShots/info

The Mercedes-Benz CLS (initially called the CLS-Class) is a series of executive cars produced by Mercedes-Benz from December 2003 to August 2023. The original model was a four-door sedan based on the Mercedes E-Class platform, marketed as a four door coupé. An estate (shooting brake) model was later added to the model range with the second generation CLS.
With M-B currently being immersed in the process of reivention, it would be plausible to anticipate some exciting solutions for the successors of various product lines. A new SL based on a shortened C217 S-Class cabriolet platform, perhaps ? And sharing it with Aston Martin (DB9 successor) ? With speculation regarding the W213 E-Class being offered in 2 door coupe and cabriolet form and an upcoming W205 C-Class "sportback" type of vehicle, will the next CLS be positioned more upmarket ? A C217 based derivative, sharing the platform with Aston Martins' Rapide replacement ?

Aston Martin and Mercedes' agreement has nothing to do with sharing platforms, just an FYI.

Of course merely speculation on my part.

It may be interesting to revisit the depth of the M-B/A-M relationship in say...2-4 years time. Just sayin'.

That's definitely true, although we know for sure the next E-class and CLS will be on the Mercedes MRA platform.

I have to say this.....I'm concerned a little let down that Mercedes keeps getting into deals with less than ideal partners. Aston-Martin is a great from design standpoint, but the company is a mess. Then there is Infiniti and the whole Nissan tie up. Mercedes isn't getting anything from these companies IMO. They all stand to gain from Mercedes. Can someone explain to me, seriously why Mercedes needs Nissan or Aston?

The M-B/Nissan alliance (excluding Renault) admittedly baffles me a bit.

In the case of A-M however, the immense brand equity of the marque can only be an asset for M-B. Obviously, M-Bs' immense resources could ensure the longer term fortunes of Aston Martin. I personally would not view the use of M-Bs' MRA platform, modified of course, as a basis for future A-M offerings as detrimental at all.

But as previously mentioned, I'm just rambling here...

I don't think this is that type of partnership. Sounds to me like Mercedes is seeing it as a source of income; for things like ABC they always said they were willing to sell it to other companies. Outside of receiving income from Nissan/Infiniti, I know Mercedes was going to get access to that plant in Mexico.

Economies of scale and money? In both cases it seems like MB is just selling stuff. They did get a small diesel engine from Renault however.

Agreed, economy of scale AND the small diesels from Renault, which makes some of the finest small diesels on the market, and that's where Daimler was lagging.

I know I will be tarred and feathered, but this car is a mess. CLA grille stuck on and the sides are still a royal mess. Good thing is that we're that much closer to the replacement now that this one is getting a facelift.
