S-Class [Spyshots] 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe/Cabriolet

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class, formerly known as Sonderklasse, is a series of full-sized luxury sedans and coupés produced by Mercedes-Benz. The S-Class is the designation for top-of-the-line Mercedes-Benz models and was officially introduced in 1972 with the W116, and has remained in use ever since. The S-Class is the flagship vehicle for Mercedes-Benz, being positioned above the other Mercedes-Benz models.
The S-Cabrio release is imminent:

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet previewed in official render
Debuts at IAA
Mercedes-Benz has released a teaser image previewing its upcoming S-Class Cabriolet bound to show up at next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

Billed as the company's first flagship-level luxury four-seater since 1971, the open-top S-Class (A217) will use an electrically retractable folding fabric roof featuring a multi-layer configuration and a large glass rear window. The roof has been designed in such a way as to mimic the looks of the S-Class Coupe even though the rear end will be longer and with a different shape necessary to store the roof when folded.

The engine lineup will be largely carried over from the coupe and there's also going to be S63 and S65 versions, but these are expected to come out early next year. Rear-wheel drive will be standard, but Mercedes-Benz will offer several engines with an optional 4MATIC all-wheel drive setup.

Since the S-Class Cabriolet will be introduced in mid-September at the Frankfurt Motor Show, chances are an online reveal will occur before the end of this month.

Come on guys, really? The SL is a 2 seater, the S Cabrio is not. It is the same reason why the E Cabrio, SL, SLK, and every other Benz convertible exists along with the SL. The upcoming C Cabrio won't eliminate the SLC.

That said, the SL is already in trouble. Clearly that is the only reason why there is no AMG GT Cabrio. Mercedes basically admitted it.

Even if there was a GT cab. The SL will still stand. A GT cabrio will be way too sporty for your average SL owner.
I guess you guys have also forgotten how the SL survived the SLR & SLS Cabs.

Well fair, both of those cars were more expensive than your average SL. Mercedes will need to make some interesting decisions on what the next-gen SL will be like.

That would look right at home cruising along the Pacific Highway in Southern California or the French Riviera. Considering this is the boulevardier in the line-up, I wonder what changes will be made to the next-gen SL to further differentiate each other.

Now, hoffmeister_fan's reference to SoCal reminded me of it: Finally, after 8 years of wait, we got what we were hoping for when they presented the Ocean Drive concept back in 2007!
