In the BMW AG what's Next? Thread we discuss the proposal of a 3er Active Tourer, which you can probably guess this is Mercedes-Benz's proposal for a competitor in that segment.

The larger crossover segment is calling out for something new than just a large van and the segment is looked at as one that can grow with diverse ideas over the normal approach. Based upon the longer Chinese market extended 3er and C-Klasse models - that is profit from every unit sold.

As Appropriate for these types of vehicles - Watch this space....

Ιn the "BMW AG: What's next" thread we see that BMW experiments with new weird models, like a 18 year old experiments with sex during a college fraternity party. Sorry, but BMW seems lost while MB is about to unveil a new C-Class that's the epitome of what MB stands for.

And I already sense the off-topic bunch of posts about to start :D

Mercedes safety engineers told Autocar that the new C-class architecture – which is not related to the new S-class structure or that of the upcoming new-generationE-class– was designed to excel in the world’s most demanding crash tests.
The company displayed part of the rear structure of a prototype W205 C-class, which had undergone one of the US-standard crash tests. This sees the car hit from the rear at 50mph with an 80 per cent overlap of the Mercedes’ rear and the front of the impacting vehicle.
A live video from inside the crash test car showed the Mercedes’ rear overhang crumpling right up into the rear wheel arch, but no further than the rear axle mounting point, despite the huge forces involved.

This is interesting. I though MRA will underpin E Class as well as C Class. Could it be that the next-gen E Class will have the same architecture as it has now, albeit heavily modified? (Just like the W221-W222).

MB Passion also posted some pics. This one is identified as the new W205 front end damper strut assembly, produced with aluminium pressure die casting, and weighing only 3.16 kg. :)

Compare the W204:

The W213 E-Class is reported to lose between 100 and 200 Kg compared to the equivalent W212 version. I was told this same by my local dealer back in the summer.

No question that the quality is class-leading. But, the circular vents below a floating screen (looks like a TV on a cabinet) clash a bit.

It's evident that the quality is certainly a class better than what competitors are offering in the segment. If only the screen were integrated, then the design would match the quality. It doesn't bother me as much as I thought, but it still is the only glaring flaw I can find :)

The screen doesn't bother me anymore.... It's grown on me. It pushes it up and forward and closer to you... But I can understand why people don't like it.

Mat finished woodgrain. Delicious.
