O/T, but is anyone else aware that starting 2011, M-B is using a disgusting and pathetic HONK as their alarm sound? To replace the "Chirp" that's so befitting a Luxury Car, especially.

What's going on with them I sometimes wonder, while certain things keep getting better, putting a "Honk Alarm", akin to a 90's Ford or something on a Benz would have never happened years ago. It kinda worries me as to what little details will be cut out in years to come/i.e where they're going with that.

Even the SLS has it apparently.

Anyone know if it's a cost cutting move, or a Legal thing now? As small-beans as it sounds, it makes me damn happy I opted for a 2010. :t-hands:

LOL. We don't even get standard alarms here. Maybe it's just as well. :p

This car is incredible, absolutely gorgeous. I´m definetly in the market for it, waiting to see the new S-Class.

EDIT: I hope now you can see the interior pic I was trying to post.

08/08/2010 New CLS comes with 4Matic

The CLS (C218) celebrates its world premiere in October 2010 at the Paris Motor Show. The showroom debut is in January 2011. The CLS will have optional full LED headlamps for the first time. Also new, but not from the start, is a new optional 4Matic all-wheel drive for the CLS 350 CDI and CLS 500. The new spy shots from Florida show a beautiful interior inspired by the Shooting Brake study, and thus clearly different from the E-Class sedan. Because the S-Class will receive the four-cylinder CDI diesel engine, the CLS will also come with a 4 cylinder engine for the first time:

CLS 250 CDI (204 hp / 500 NM) OM651, from March 2011

CLS 350 CDI (265 hp / 620 NM) OM642LS DE LA 30, January 2011

CLS 350 CDI 4Matic (265 hp / 620 NM) OM642LS DE 30 LA

CLS 350 CGI (306 hp / 370 NM) M276 DE 35, January 2011

CLS 500 BE (435 hp / 700 NM) M278 46 EN LA, from March 2011

CLS 500 BE 4Matic (435 PS / 700 NM) M278 46 EN LA

CLS 63 AMG (544 hp / 800 NM) M157 DE 55 LA

Wow...great news. The CLS550 4Matic is going to be huge hit in the U.S. in those markets where 4Matic is a must.

Kept the surfboard on the dash. Looks great. Not as over the top as the concept, but definately enough differences from the E. Much like the original.

Only thing I don't like on the outside is the side view mirrors. The oval ones on the original CLS would flow much better. This squared, recylced mirrors just don't fit the design. This car is super exotic in appearance. The headlights are a big improvement over the original. Really the only thing I never liked on the original. The inverted crease running from the rear hump really works for me. The rear arch works best on this vehicle. Not as contrived as it appears on the E. Wish they could just take it out of the E. But really fits and flows with the others lines on the CLS. Absolute homerun.

That is a hot headlight, a bit busy, but hot.

The rear wheel arch does work nicely on this car, but I also like it on the E. Something I do know I like on the E more than this car is the character lines, as I much prefer the E's downward creases, no contest there.

Aside from that, I eagerly await to see the CLS in PERSON. I've realized, all new M-B designs are so detailed that they have to be seen in the flesh/metal, regardless of how awkward they might appear in photo's.

Agree. I was pleasantly surprised when I finally saw the new E on the road.

To these eyes, the CLS photographs much better, could look outstanding IRL.

Mercedes-Benz Implements LUXEON Rebel LEDs from Philips Lumileds for Daytime Running Light Function

SAN JOSE, CA – Daimler AG announced that it has adopted LUXEON® Rebel LEDs for use in the Daytime Running Light (DRL) function on several vehicle models within its fleet. Starting with the E-Class models in June 2010, Daimler intends to expand the use of LUXEON Rebel LEDs for the DRL function in other models, as well.

"We have chosen Philips Lumileds as our partner for the next generation LED DRLs not only due to the product supremacy in lumen output, quality of light and thermal stability, but due to the entirely trustful cooperation between the engineering teams on both sides." said Uwe Kostanzer, head of exterior lighting department, Mercedes-Benz car group.

Commenting on the collaboration, Michael Holt, CEO of Philips Lumileds, said: "We have enjoyed an excellent working relationship with Daimler AG for many years, and the adoption of LUXEON LEDs in the Mercedes platform is an exciting expansion of our relationship."

"Mercedes’ leadership in adopting LED technology is a tremendous signal for the entire segment and could further accelerate the penetration of LEDs into vehicles," said Klemens Brunner, VP Global Business Unit Automotive LEDs at Philips Lumileds. "This is another important step in our mission to bring long lasting, energy efficient and environmentally friendly solid state lighting solutions to the automotive industry."

Adopting LUXEON Rebel LED technology on automobiles enables carmakers to produce lighting modules that increase visibility, enhance safety and save power.
