Belt free? That sounds interesting. Can you tell us more about it?

fuenfkommasechs made a movie for us. If you don't want to bother with the German, just turn on subtitles and autotranslate into your favorite language to get some clues what they are talking about. :)

Those auto translated subtitles are quite hard to understand.

I hear for the first time about digital door panels on IAA!!!o_O In what concept car they are?
Where can I read more about them ??

I expect revolutionary design.
W220 to w221 was kind of an evolution and also w221 to w222. So I think we might se a design difference like we saw from w140 to w220.
Fingers crossed for it to set the new face of mercedes.

I expect the W223 not before 2021. Just like W221, the facelift came 4 years after it's start of production, followed by another 4 year production (W221: august 2005-july 2009-june 2013/W222: june 2013-july 2017-2nd Q 2021?).

Faurecia (and Continental as well, if I remember correctly) have been working on those kinds of panels and (physical 3D-) instrument clusters for a while now. They both showed some application examples on their respective stands.
Up-to-now, most 'integrated' implementations appear rather forced than functionally and/or aesthetically convincing.

It wouldn't be unwise if MB postpones it a little bit. All the competitors for the next 4 years are clear (except maybe the LCI 7er), and I can see no threat to the dominance of the S class

His channel definitely deserves more subscribers and views. Btw we are already on page 2 of this thread, and it has been only 24h?

This is only setting the tone for what is surely to be the longest thread in GCF history. A new S-Class is always a special event.

The big question is if Scott Will upgrade the w223 from w222 which he compared to MS DOS hahaha

So Scott what is the prediction in Munich w223 equals windows 95 ?

You think W220 > W221 was an evolution? I thought they were very different. The W221 appeared to me as a complete departure with the BMW E65-like interior, raked stance, and exterior styling that emphasized its mass (see bulbous fenders). I loved the facelift W221 in particular but it was a far cry in my eyes from the lithe looking W220.

In any event I agree with your post overall that the W223 will likely be a peek into the future of automobiles.

126 - elegant
140 - heavy
220 - elegant
221 - heavy
222 - elegant
223 - heavy again?

P.S. Maybe "heavy" is a wrong word, but...

You have a point there..I think the days of 'heavy' are over and it is all sleekness for the future. The next S Class is surely going to be a huge subject of speculation and I assume it will take a slightly revolutionary approach.

Hmmm well at a glance Current S-Klasse is maybe... ios10 at a push?

Exactly it is surprising how many do not visit the more technical innovators and suppliers that showcase at the IAA. It is surprising how automotive journalists do not even bother to check out or even report the innovations that will drive the future. It's a completely missed opportunity that adds more depth to the industry and of course your visit to the IAA they even encourage employment.

Do you guys think Mercedes will use more carbon fiber and magnesium parts in the W223 to save weight and increase rigidity further?

The New A8 has a few carbon and magnesium structure parts but is no lighter than the W222.

It would be good if the W223 takes things further by using more CFRP parts for the front section of the car to save weight, improve crash protection, increase the already high torsional rigidity (from 40,500 to 49,000 nm/deg) and improve the weight distribution
