I still don't believe they will stop building the S-coupe and Cabriolet as they selling well all over the world and they still look so damn gorgeous. The next gen cars will carry on I am sure even more high class and stunning

Lol, I was just about to agree with all three posts..:D

They're selling well compared to what? Genuinely curious as I haven't monitoring global sales of those variants. I tend to believe the rumors given the cabriolet especially is a harder sell in places like China.

I wish Mercedes broke out the numbers, but I tend to believe it's selling well in its own right. The only car to compare it to would be the Bentley Cabrio, but I just can't say one way or another if it ever outsold the Bentley. I doubt it. Then in China I doubt they sell enough to make it worthwhile, but in other markets like Beverly Hills and Miami I bet they sell a lot. It could go either way.

Yeah you're probably right. I'm sure there will be an all electric S-Class and if it catches on they'll need to build a lot of them. I just hope the S Cabrio and Coupe survive. Otherwise I'll be looking for one last ones they make as they'll be a Benz classic IMO.

I personally do not think that M-B will abandon the luxury coupe/cabriolet segment. Questionable, however, is whether the C/A 217 successors are actually "S-Class" models. Stand-alone (although certainly MRA Evo-derived) Maybach hyper-luxo 2+2 coupe/convertible ? A more "athletic" 2 door 2+2 GT offering developed by AMG ? Both ?

There is certainly an overlap across the SL, S Coupe and AMG GT. Expensive Cabrios aren't lucrative enough for all three to coexist.

New service from Mercedes me gives an exclusive insight into production: Joyful anticipation for Mercedes-Benz customers
  • Via their personalised access to Mercedes me, new car customers in Germany are able to follow the production status of their ordered Mercedes-Benz car in real time.
  • Digitalisation in the Mercedes-Benz plants allows the use of production data for a new brand experience and offers interactive services.
Stuttgart – People spend 374 days of their lives "waiting" for something. During the waiting time between ordering their Mercedes-Benz and taking delivery, we enthuse our customers by digital means.

A new tool within "Mercedes me" makes it possible after ordering the desired vehicle to track its production status online from the comfort of your own home, or while travelling: Between the ordering and delivery time, Mercedes-Benz offers new car buyers in Germany exclusive insights into the production of their Mercedes-Benz car in real time, so as to heighten the "Joyful Anticipation". The new service from Mercedes me at http://mercedes.me/production is a very special brand experience on a PC, tablet or smartphone. "Joyful Anticipation" is already available for vehicles in production in the German Mercedes-Benz car plants in Sindelfingen (CLS, CLS Shooting Brake, E- and S-Class), Rastatt (A- and B-Class, GLA) and in Kecskemét (B-Class, CLA, CLA Shooting Brake) in Hungary. Shortly "Joyful Anticipation" will also become available for models from the German Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen (C-Class Sedan, Estate, Coupé, Cabriolet; E-Class Coupé and Cabriolet, GLC, GLC Coupé, SL, SLC). The Mercedes-Benz plant in Tuscaloosa (USA) is still following this year in which SUVs for the German market are running off the line.

Customers in Germany concluding a sales contract in Germany for a new Mercedes-Benz car receive a flyer about "Joyful Anticipation". Using their personal Mercedes me account, customers can log-in and input their ordered vehicle using the order number. In addition to information about the vehicle, they receive an insight into different production stages – from production planning, body shop, painting, assembly and quality control to completion and planned delivery. In addition, interactive services such as a tailor-made Mercedes me car insurance with special terms, or vouchers with special offers, for example for a driving training, enhance the attractiveness of "Joyful Anticipation".

"Joyful Anticipation" consists of four areas, "Welcome", "Your Vehicle", "Your Production" and "Your Handover", which are configured completely individually for the customer and vehicle. The aim is to give the customer an individual, exciting, digital brand experience even during the waiting time for the ordered vehicle. In the "Your Vehicle" section, the customer is given all the relevant information relating to the ordered vehicle. In the "Your Production" section, the customer finds out everything about the individual production stages for the ordered vehicle with real-time tracking. The multimedia content provides an entertaining insight into the manufacture of a Mercedes-Benz car, ranging from the production location to the production processes and the final inspection. Following vehicle completion, the customer can find out all he/she needs to know about the vehicle handover.

Networking the entire value added chain in real time is already more than just a vision for Mercedes-Benz. And the focus here is always on the potential and actual customer. The status of every vehicle in the Mercedes-Benz car plants is reported to the production network. These data are used for production planning and control. The new service of Mercedes me now likewise accesses these vehicle data.

The digital mobility and service brand Mercedes me creates individualised access to the world of Mercedes-Benz. This goes well beyond the car itself, offering an integrated system of products, services and innovations.

Since its introduction, "Joyful Anticipation" has not only been enthusiastically received by customers. The service was honoured with coveted prizes, e.g. the German Online Communication Awards ("Deutscher Preis für Onlinekommunikation") and "Best of Best" winner in the Automotive Brand Contest.

With the digitalisation of our production the prerequisite for this innovative digital service has been made and will be expanded. A vision of the future is that the customer will be able to assign changes to the equipment and even further customization after the purchase order.

The W223 will surely have a wider footprint than the current W222. I suspect an early W223 mule. Or perhaps an M-B "luxury sedan" EQ entry mule ?

Enough hints have been dropped to guarantee that the W223 will have digital doors panels. The Maybach's wrap around infotainment as seems like the next logical step for the dashboard and upcoming AI technology.

2020 Mercedes-Benz S-Class W223 Mule Filmed on Car Carrier in Germany

Someday, maybe in 2030, you'll look at the 2020 S-Class as a run-down piece of hardware. But right now, there's only a couple test mules in the world, and Mercedes would rather you didn't know about it.

Mercedes has a way of trickling down its technology. First comes the flagship limo, followed by all the other models in the range. As you might have noticed, there's a C- and E-Class that borrow everything from the W222 S-Class. So we're already looking ahead at the next generation.

Of course, this prototype doesn't look the part; it's a regular W222 with average white paint. However, the fenders have been flared out, indicating that the next generation will use slightly wider tacks. It's almost like somebody tried to make a Rocket Bunny Mercedes for SEMA but forgot to add stupidly large wheels or lowered suspension.

Oddly, it seems like the W223 prototypes are sharing the car carrier with the S-Class and E-Class 2-door coupe models, which are both relatively new. Maybe they need the current batch of luxury cars for comparison to see how they're going to step their game up.

Nowadays, flagship German cars need to have not only powerful engines, but also all-wheel steering, digital controls, autonomous technology and clever safety features. The new Audi A8, for example, can lift its air suspension on the side that's about to get T-boned by another car so that the frame absorbs the shock instead of the door. That's something Mercedes might look into.

Of course, the big trick is going to be taking your hands completely off the wheel. Instead of bespoke self-driving cars like Google tried to make, Mercedes is likely to cram all the sensors into the 2020 S-Class. That's right, around the turn of the decade the driver will be free to do other things in his car, provided that he specified the right set of options.

We can't forget that despite enjoying flagship status, the S-Class is still sometimes bought with a four-cylinder engine. Speaking of which, the W222 generation has sold over 100,000 units already.

Beside improved autonomous driving and mild. Hybrids, what technical inventions can we expect to introduce? Will an all electric version be possible on the next platform?

Won't somebody think of all the finger print smudges !!!!!:nailbiting:

Wow, it's about that time again. Calling this to be the new longest thread when closed.

The only three details I know that are certain so far are: Maybach 6 heavily influences the front and profile, interior will be very evolutionary & digital door panels (as previewed at IAA)
