I wonder if the C63 is going to get the same numbers. If so the class is done on power. It will be all up to the chassis to make the domination complete.

Maybe 350kw (476PS) and 650nm for C63 AMG, well let's hope it's not less than that!

Here it is again - reverse flow + hot-side inside turbocharging. Brought to you by BMW - well before anyone else. Now it seems to be the high-performance industry standard...

Don't flame me for IC-level comment. Simply pointing out an observation.

Notice though that AMG eschews both twin-scroll and cross-manifold tech for a simpler (probably better sounding too) configuration:

Everyone is doing it now but I still don't know what is the advantage of "hot side inside" minus the cross-flow manifold (a la M's S63Tu). Every one claims shorter path for the exhaust gasses to the turbos, but when a single bank is driving each turbo separately, I don't see what difference it makes if the turbos are inside or outside.

^ Agreed. Here's the explanation for the Scorpion. :)

Reverse Flow Design

The Scorpion’s architecture shares several key traits with GM's indefinitely postponed 4.5-liter Duramax V-8 diesel engine. Most notably, the intake and exhaust flow through the cylinder heads is reversed when compared to a conventional diesel engine, with the exhaust exiting directly into the engine’s turbo that sits in the engine's valley, mounted between V-style cylinder banks.

“When we looked at the at the design imperatives of the program we were looking to ensure that we delivered improved performance, fuel economy, NVH and heat management with the aftertreatment system,” Gryglak said. “The reverse flow and inboard exhaust configuration helps us achieve all of those objectives. It’s a smarter design.”

Specs for the C63 are 476hp for base C63 and 510hp for S-model. They actually appared here a while ago. I have seen the new C63 in production version.

True, Amat46 posted them. :)

C 63 AMG with 476 hp - S model with 510 hp - C 400 4MATIC with 333 hp
the C 180 BlueEFFICIENCY with 156 hp (6-speed manual transmission) is celebrating its market launch in September 2014, the C 250 with 7G TRONIC PLUS (211 PS ) then starts in June 2014. The variant already shown to the world premiere in Detroit C 400 4MATIC with 333 hp (245kW, 7G-TRONIC PLUS transmission) is, however, only in December 2014 for the launch.

4MATIC for the C 63 AMG S model with 510 hp from the factory
Likewise December 2014 start of the C 63 AMG with 476 hp to the dealer, but also as a (probably 4MATIC variant) C63 AMG S-model - but this has over 510 PS (375kW) (AMG variants obtained in October 2014, the purchase order release).

Wow, that's awesome news for the C63 S!
It is going to be one fast cat. We need to create a thread for this model.

^^ Yes, 4Matic in the C-class will be offered in RHD as well. But the AMG models won't have it for now. Maybe later, though, like in the Black Series? :)

The head guy at AMG already said no 4Matic for the C AMG. Unless something has changed, I don't know where they're getting this from.

M

"I think the C-Class is a little bit more fun to drive than the E-Class. The E-Class is more about every day usability," said Moers. "You can have a lot of fun with the car on track with our 4Matic system, but I think the C-Class is more dedicated to fun-to-drive, more sporty, more race track--sometimes a little more sideways. That's the reason it's a rear-wheel drive car."

When asked if there is a chance we'll see a Black Series of the next C63 AMG, Moers' response was a hearty and enthusiastic, "Always!" without any hesitation whatsoever. "But, on the longer future, honestly," Moers added, meaning it will likely be a couple of years before it arrives. Why? Because, as Mercedes-Benz USA's Christian Bokich explained, Black Series models are always coupes, so the Black Series has to wait until the standard C-Class Coupe arrives.

Love the sound and love that there is still a roar.

Based on the power distance between the C-class regular and S models, we may see a 545-550hp AMG GT S. I wonder if the torque will be uprated to 700NM/516lb. I kind of get why the 178 is not the torque monster that the current 5.5L is; they want to maintain a sporty character and not turn the car into a simple locomotive. All in all, I am feeling giddy about this model despite the torque specification "handicap".

I know that the Black Series could restore some torque credentials, but it will also bring a massive price, reduced comfort and overall hairy-chestedness that not all testers have appreciated in other models in the past. As a customer, I probably would not be one to go for a Black Series, economically.
