I can vaguely see in this ps where the rear 3/4 window kicks up, which tells me the real car might have this same affect.
Don`t hold your breath.

But the rear doesn't match.

That rendering is a hatchback like a 911 but the mule has a trunk like the SLS.

Will this make a good car for Robin ? Too cute for me. "I'M BATMAN !!"

Some more info about the new M178. (y)

What we know about the upcoming M177 / M178 4.0 liter twin turbo V8 for the 2014 W/C205 C63 AMG and SLC AMG, W205 C63 Performance Package confirmed

Yes, a new 4.0 liter twin turbo V8 motor is coming from AMG as was confirmed in December last year. The internal engine code for this motor is M177 for the C63 AMG version and M178 for the motor going into the SLC AMG. This means that like the previous generation W204 C63 AMG M156 and the SLS AMG M159 necessitating different engine codes for the same base motor there will likely be hardware as well as tuning differences between the motors depending on model application.

As the SLC AMG will be a higher priced sports car designed to compete with the Porsche 991 it will likely get more power and upgraded engine internals. That is simply speculation based on AMG precedent with the previous generation M156 and M159 motors. The SLK55 AMG will likely also adopt the M177 V8 although at a later point. It is unconfirmed if the name will change to SLK63 AMG although that is likely.

It is also possible that the base SLC and C63 AMG will share the M177 V8 while the higher performance version set to go into the 911 Turbo rivaling SLC AMG S will be the M178. M177 V8 output is targeted in the 450-500 horsepower range. With the performance package option raising output of the upcoming BMW M4 to the 451 horsepower range Mercedes may raise the standard output to compete with the heavier C63 AMG as they have a 50+ horse window to play with.

The M178 is rumored to be testing in trim up to 590 horsepower. It is likely that a variety of different tunes are being tested as Mercedes continues to benchmark the car against rivals such as the Nissan GTR.

BenzBoost - What we know about the upcoming M177 / M178 4.0 liter twin turbo V8 for the 2014 W/C205 C63 AMG and SLC AMG, W205 C63 will have a performance package option

The SLC has me genuinely excited. It promises the same or more (performance) for less (price, smaller engine, overall lower visual bulk) when compared to the SLC - similar progression from the SLR to the SLS.

There has been a lot of speculation about Mercedes' new sports car and a recent report is indicating it will be called the AMG GT.
Set to replace the SLS AMG, the AMG GT - which was previously known by its C190 codename and SLC nickname - is designed to compete with the Porsche 911. It will reportedly ride on a version of the SLS AMG's platform and be significantly cheaper than its predecessor.
Engine options remain unconfirmed but speculation suggests the model will be powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 that has outputs of 485 HP (357 kW) and 550 HP (404 kW). There have also been rumors about a range-topping Black Series variant with up to 585 HP (430 kW).
The AMG GT coupe is expected to be launched in 2015 and a convertible variant is slated to arrive shortly thereafter.

May come to LA? :)

Might the Mercedes AMG C190 model series debut in 2014?

Mercedes AMG is currently working on the C190 series, the "Mercedes GT", if it's at all called like that. As it stands now, the model could arrive as early as next year, 2014.

The "Mercedes GT" or "SLC" will probably not be a replacement for the Mercedes-Benz SLS, which will most likely not have a direct successor next year. The C190 series is small, as far as we could see ourselves on the testing ground in Papenburg in Emsland recently, and is targeting the price range of the Porsche 911 or Audi R8. Even though Mercedes-Benz is currently still not talking about the model, it could come to market as early as 2014.

Production in Sindelfingen from 2014?

As we reported earlier, the C190 will come with smaller, turbocharged engines. The naturally aspirated engine of the larger SLS will be discontinued. The vehicle drops the gullwing doors, and the proportions of the two-seater are lower and shorter than the SLS and adhere more closely to the design of the SL in terms of grille and the headlights. Retro elements, such as a long bonnet are retained. The engine sits on a modified SLS platform with front-mid engine, and the starting price will be around 110,000 euros.

Basic version to 500 hp

The vehicle sports a rear-mounted transaxle, and the wheelbase is shortened. The increased use of steel saves production costs. Materials of carbon fiber in the SLS are replaced with aluminum in the C190 to save weight. Thus the vehicle weighs around 300 kg less than the C197 (SLS AMG), while retaining the weight distribution of 50:50.

As for the engine several variants are possible, including a 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 from AMG, which will have up to 500 hp in the basic version, and lateron a Black Series with up to 600 hp is expected. As an entry-level model also a 330 hp 3.0 liter turbo V6 may be considered, which will forward the driving force by 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox to the rear wheels.

A first outlook on the design of the new model, we expect as early as the upcoming LA Auto Show in November 2013.

I seriously doubt anything will happen with this car at the L.A. auto show. It is too soon.

I thought that Carbon Fiber is lighter than the Aluminum or Steel variants. Isn't it suppose to be stiffer and lighter than other materials used in automotive construction?

I think the weight may be saved as it is suppose to be a smaller car.

MB seems to have a number of models in the pipeline? We'll see if the C190 is among them? :)

Thanks for checking it. My translation was flawed. Here's a corrected version. :)

Basic version to 500 hp

The vehicle sports a rear-mounted transaxle, and the wheelbase is shortened. In parallel the increased use of steel saves production costs. Materials of carbon fiber in the SLS are replaced in the C190 with aluminum. The vehicle weighs around 300 kg less than the C197 (SLS AMG), while retaining the weight distribution of 50:50.

I know it probably won't happen for at least another 5-10 years, but I sure would love to see an SLR successor. I simply adored that car.

Latest rumors expect the concept in Geneva:

AMG, will start production of the AMG GT in late 2014 as a 2015 model, this car will likely be shown in concept/ styling form at Geneva's Autoshow in March! My source sya sthe car is now entering its final shakedwn stage as its now set up for topseed runs as well as overall performence figures! Under the hod will be a new twin-turbo direct injected 4.0 liter V-8 that will produce no less then 500 BHP in base form! The company will not push it as a replacement as the SLS! My source has revealed to me that AMG will produce the AMG GT as a stand alone model will the true SLS replacemebt is under development, which means we will get said car in about 3-4 years time! My source syas that AMG could very well use a hotter tuned version of the twin-turbo 4.0 liter V-8, though my source still states there will likely be a twin-turbo 5.0 liter V-8 that will bring this car directly into competition with Ferrari's F12, Lamborghini's Aventador LP720-4, McLaren's rumored P14, Porsche's rumored 961! Beyond this my source stated to me that AMG are working closely with Pagani on a project whats being labeled C60! According to my source this project will be a Pagani project that will use a new high performence hybrid twin-turbo V-12, with a displacement of about 6.0 liters! Rumored to produce over 900 BHP! http://www.carspyshots.net/showpost.php?p=457252&postcount=3543

Mmmmm, yummy!

Also nice to hear that we won't wait long for the SLS successor. If the rumors are correct, that is.

Great, Mercedes will be where Ferrari, McLaren and Porsche are TODAY. I think Mercedes needs to concentrate on something other than a hypercar. How about something to compete with the i3 and i8? Or how about flushing out the E-Class with a true E-Class based Coupe and Convertible or how about going all in with Smart. Enough of these vanity projects, that is after the C190. One sports car like the SLS or C190/GT every few years is enough.

Hybrid Pagani is under works.. i have it on pretty secure sources

I know we are starting to offtopic, but I have to say that I agree. Smart is terribly under-managed. What BMW is doing today with its iVehicles, MB was supposed to do with Smart a decade ago. Oh well... Hopefully, they've learned the lesson.

Agreed, it is.

But, could it compete in profitable niches?

In my view, smart would be a great sub-brand for Mercedes-Benz, which would allow it to compete in some non-luxury segments, and let it keep is luxury image intact. However, the attributes to differentiate it from its competitors would be the problem. As BMW 'took' materials/electric power, what is left for smart? Affordability? Avantgarde styling (such as Citroen's DS line)? Extremely low consumption, albeit using conventional IC engines?

If smart could expand its spoke, wouldn't it be great if they made: 2dr, 4dr, Roadster (such an interesting car in its time!) and, the inevitable, Crossover? MB doesn't need to go any lower than A Class, however, that doesn't mean smart couldn't go any further than it today is? :cautious:

Here's a smart SUV. :D
