Driving: I do not have first hand experience as a G11 driver but pretty reliable info on it handling exceptionelly well. It was also tested against cars that aren't classic 7er competitors. Weight savings are obviously 'real' in the low 3digit kg range. What is much more important, as I here, is the 'Where' of the saving. The center of gravity is supposedly much lower and the weight distribution close to perfect. So, together with the great user interface, it's really not the underneath that might be the problem.
By the way: didn't some of you also have the impression that up to now, officials' enthusiasm about the G11 is kinda restrained?
They say it sets new standards for the segment
Well, that was the best we could do BEFORE the reveal.
I loved their contrast piping. Do they still do that ? It looked awesome.
The E38 is a good example of how today's progress has affected design especially within the packaging of a car.
Today's luxury cars can not have that E38 low sleek look especially at the rear as they have to provide exceptional luggage space not only in width or depth but also height.

Good Lord, really?
Bangle hijacked one of the most respected automotive companies design language in history and did a 180. That is the worst period in their history as far as appearance goes. Just look back and try to understand how his designs fit in with those before or after him. They look like they were designed by a completely different company (Japanese IMO).
BMW designs withstand the test of time, his did not.
Rant over.
