7 Series [Spy shots] BMW 7er (G11) Spy Pics & Info

The BMW 7 Series is a full-size luxury sedan manufactured and marketed by the German automaker BMW since 1977. It is the successor to the BMW E3 "New Six" sedan. The 7 Series is BMW's flagship car and is only available in a sedan bodystyle (including long wheelbase and limousine models). It traditionally introduces technologies and exterior design themes before other models in BMW's lineup.

If it weights almost the same like 520d, then the weight difference between old and new should be as follows:
730d will be the bi turbo i4, so we take 525d as basis, compare 525d to 530d-the difference is 55kg. So we take out 55 kg from 1915 (730d i6) to compare apples to apples and it equals to 1860kg if we had a bi turbo 4 cylinder 7er at this generation. 520d is 1705 kg which makes a difference of 155 kg between the new 7er and the old (actual) one.

Sorry, guys but this looks super sleek & sexy too me. Even menacing & aggressive. Even very sporty - in the M-sport guise. Maybe it is vanilla ... but what a vanilla! A f....g delicious one! :D

As much as I like these pics @Enl it took almost 10min to scroll to the bottom..LOL

The 7 looks smaller in these pics than the S-class but guess we will have to wait for the official pics before we can see its true size.

Hardly.

W222 S-class just appears huge but it actually isn't as big (eg. A8 is bigger!). W222 S is only 4cm longer than F01 7er, they both have almost the same width, while W222 is 1,5cm higher. But F01 features 3,5cm longer wheelbase. And G11 won't be any shorter than F01 ... Meaning: G11 dimensions are very much on par with W22 dimensions.

Dimensions W222 S-class:
Length
SWB: 5,116 mm (201.4 in); LWB: 5,246 mm (206.5 in)
Width 1,899 mm (74.8 in)
Height 1,496 mm (58.9 in)
Wheelbase SWB: 3,035 mm (119.5 in); LWB: 3,165 mm (124.6 in)

Dimensions F01 7-Series:
Length
SWB: 5,075 mm (199.8 in); LWB: 5,215 mm (205.3)
Width 1,902 mm (74.9 in)
Height SWB: 1,481 mm (58.3 in); LWB: 1,486 mm (58.5 in)
Wheelbase SWB: 3,070 mm (120.9 in); LWB: 3,210 mm (126.4 in)

While A8 D4 is bigger (although lower) than both:
Dimensions Audi D4 A8:
Length
SWB: 5,131 mm (202.0 in); LWB: 5,267 mm (207.4 in)
Width 1,948 mm (76.7 in)
Height SWB: 1,461 mm (57.5 in); LWB: 1,471 mm (57.9 in)
Wheelbase SWB: 2,992 mm (117.8 in); LWB: 3,122 mm (122.9 in)

I can completely understand a certain discontent about the front but the backside is pretty flawless (objectively design-wise). It is complex (3D rearlights and chrome-bar, not comparable to the A8, not at all comparable with random Koreans), but understandable. It is sharp and dynamic but at the same time very broad and luxurious without being boasty. And: it is a typical BMW but easily distinguishable from the rest of the line-up. Sounds to me like very solid work. Even though I would have loved to see more Gran Lusso there.

I like the new spypics, these leaked pictures really didn't do the car a favour. I think the official pictures will change a lot of opinions, the car's stance is mega.

Can´t stand how you guys can complain about the leaked pics. I have followed this thread since the beginning and that is what it is. Leaked pics look like the spy pics EnI has just posted. The only thing that was not clear 100% was part of the rearlights. Of course, when you see some studio pics with fantastic lighting and some other spice it will look better, but it will be exactly the same car. Some posts sound like some of you don´t like it but want yourselves to like it.

A bad leak was that of the A8 a few years back. Those pics looked terrible from every angle. But hey, when it debuted, the car was still terrible. Same with some other cases like the W212 E-Class. It looked terrible in the summer of 2008 when Autobild leaked the whole car. Studio pics made it look better, but when I see those leaked pics today I think they gave a good idea of how the car ended up looking IRL. The only part of a leaked car that may get better IRL is the interior, but this interior already looks nice.

This pics show the car on a very nice color, and with some high spec rims (maybe some of you dislike them in black, I don´t mind it at all). But the car is what it is. And I don´t think it looks that bad. BMW should be thankful because the leaked car could have looked far worse.

I disagree, there's more to a car design than just detailing, because in that regard you are absolutely right, nothing will change. What you can't see on those pictures is the car as a whole and not a sum of details. Certain design features have to be seen from different perspectives to wholly appreciate them. For example I don't see in those pictures a flat profile view, I don't see a 3/4 view to judge how everything works together.

The devil is in the details. And with these crappy grainy shots from weird close quarter angles I hope (and know) I will be pleasantly surprised when the real pics start dropping in....so maybe not the devil but a holy saint

@SKY do you have a link to those leaked W212 shots because I completely forgot and want to see how they compare to this 7er.

BMW does have a trump card in regards to the G11 that would be a game changer: The M7. That would define the 7 series as a car the S class simply isn't and would allow BMW to play with their "Ultimate Driving Machine" narrative. From a marketing standpoint, M7 has the cachet the 7 series needs and in my opinion, it could actually establish the perception of the 7 series as "The BMW" (sounds menacing;)).

I can completely understand a certain discontent about the front but the backside is pretty flawless (objectively design-wise). I can't say I disagree with the conclusions you have made about the rear end, but what exactly does "pretty flawless (objectively design-wise) mean? Design is completely subjective. Your supporting points (complexity, sharpness, dynamism) are based on your view that those elements exist...it is certainly not objective.

Anyway, I must say the exterior is shaping up very nicely. It really is a great interpretation of the current 7-series.

Not bad but I'm a little disappointed ......BMW's recent concepts have given me extremely high expectations.

Can't wait to see it fully revealed.

While arguably devoid of the often elusive "WOW effect", there appears to be little that could "rationally" be ridiculed. In view of the particular segment an its' targetted clientele. Personally, I prefer the G11/G12 over the W222. And I await what Audi has in store with its' upcoming D5 A8/S8.

Were I personally a customer-in-search in this segment, I would wait for Porsches' Panamera II intro before entering that crucial decision process.
