Quattroporte [Spy Shots]:2014 Maserati Quattroporte

The Maserati Quattroporte is a four-door full-size luxury sedan produced by Maserati. The name translated from Italian means "four doors".
The current QP IMO always had a right idea, but needed a lot of work. I see these a lot in my area, and they have absolutely no road presence nor do I think they'd make layman's think they are looking at something special. Not to mention, although the styling is smooth, the pre-facelift especially looks quite tired and dated.

Anybody else thinks a V12 version of the Quattroporte must be offered?

Yes, of course! Maybe a detuned Ferrari FF's 6.3-litre engine.

I remember reading the actual Quattroporte won't exist anymore. Maserati plans for 2014 are the Kubang and two saloons, a bigger (+220 mm) and a 'baby' (-150 mm) Quattroporte. Wheelbase, I mean. It would be great this detachment.

- A smaller RWD (with AWD as optional) offering from Fiat V6 (Pentastar? MultiAir Turbo?) and V6 Diesel (VM Motori) to this all-new Ferrari V8.

- A bigger RWD (with AWD as optional) with more luxury and a proper V12. But that sounds more like this all-new Ferrari V8 (but stronger) and a sporty turbocharged version. Maybe the return of the 'Biturbo' badge?

Yes, I looked in the past Maserati list, and they never had had any V12 engine other than the MC12. The QP V8 Biturbo had 335 PS and performance wise had nothing to fear for example against the 750i (E38) making 322 PS. In fact it was the actual generation QP that needed the 612 Scaglietti V12. Now if the new QP get a V8 Biturbo making 500 PS or more and the weight will be low thanks to aluminium, performance wise it won't have any big deficit compared to the S7/RS7, M5, 760i, CLS AMG, S600, Continental FS, Rapide and Panamera Turbo/S. Unfortunately a QP with the FF V12 and AWD will in no way be considered, as it would completly hurt its sales.

I agree with you all. That would be Ferrari territory, but the V12 Cosworth (Aston Martin) and the W12 (VW, Audi, Bentley) exist. Since the 4.0 TFSI is killing the W12 potential (not as glamourous, of course) I guess a 'FI' V8 could be sportier (and more efficient) than a 'NA' V12.

But my heart still beats faster (that sounded gay!) when I hear a 4.7 Maserati accelerating or revving! Took a ride in a Quattroporte Sport GT S. What a car...

Freakin LOVE this thing:

Looks good. Headlights look better and a bit more imaginative than the Infiniti-inspired headlights from the previous render. Would like a bit more curvature on the rear haunches, but otherwise a splendid looking render.

BTW, bombadier01, your avatar just cracks me up.

^^^No clue. The current car's been on the market since 2004. I'd imagine the lifecycle will not be exceeding 10 years, so a late 2012 or early 2013 introduction as a 2014 would not be out of order. Plus, last I read, Maserati wanted to release a 5er/E-class sized car based on the Chrysler LX platform first then follow-up with the full-sized QP. Whether that's still on the table or not, I have no idea, but I look forward to what Maserati and Pininfarina are going to cook up....just like the food of that region, I'm sure it's going to be delicious.

Damn, now I got a hankering for some Italian food...osso bucco and a bottle of barolo or nebulo would really hit the spot. :D

Spy photographers have caught for the first time a full-body prototype of the next generation Maserati Quattroporte cold weather testing in Northern Sweden recently. The photos follow initial photographs and video of test mules using current Quattroporte bodies a few months ago, but these new shots show the real car wearing its new body.
Naturally, Maserati engineers have gone to great lengths to hide the vehicle's actual body lines by attaching faux exterior panels, however, we can still see the overall shape. Photos reveal the Quattroporte will evolve into an executive five-door hatchback body style (aka four-door coupe) similar to the Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class and Audi A7 Sportback as it appears to have an arcing roof line that almost extends into the lip edge of the boot lid.
As previously confirmed by Maserati sources and evident in these photos, the new Quattroporte (codename M156) will grow in size to make room for the 'baby Quattroporte' and better compete with the Audi A8, BMW 7-Series and Mercedes S-Class.
The Quattroporte will receive an updated version of its 4.7-liter V8 engine with up to 475 PS (354 kW / 469 bhp). It is expected to be connected to a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission with a stop-start system and an optional all-wheel drive system.
As enticing as that sounds, there have been rumors the Quattroporte will receive 'DNA' from Chrysler in the form of a twin-turbo version of their Pentastar V6 as well as structural body pieces sourced from the 300C.
Although unconfirmed, the all-new Quattroporte is expected to debut at the Paris show in September if development trials goes as scheduled. However, if there are delays, the debut could be pushed off until the Detroit Auto Show in early 2013.

WTF?

:eusa_doh::t-crazy2::t-banghea

WTF is Marchionne thinking about ? Is he ruining the whole Maserati and Alfa Romeo brands for the sake of the Ferrari ? Yes the F12 is awesome but if it is to kill the Quattroporte, no thanks. HTF can the most beautiful 4 door sedan in the world

become an abomination as the F****** UGLY Audi A7 and Porsche Panamera ?

Yes, the NA V8 sounds good, but how will a 2 tonne heavy sedan drive with such an underpowered engine? Why can't it get a turbocharged V8 or then a naturally aspirated V12 ? Oh, it would hurt the sales of the saint FF ? Just fit in a 500 PS/700 Nm turbocharged V8 and that is all. Is sound the most important thing for a luxury sedan ? Well maybe, but who cares the cars sounds well if it is ugly as hell ?

Marchionne is a shame for the italian car industry !

Haha..you're right. So sad..
I don't know, are the Italian so in to that hatchback style for their GT now? Started from the FF and now this Quattroporte. I'm not a fan either of this Panamera/A7 style. And now they make me worries about the GranTurismo successor.. I don't wanna see a hatchback coupe!

Remember, the "shooting brake" style can still look right if executed properly... I don't think it is possible to draw any conclusions about how this car will look from the spy shots. Like you, I am not very optimistic about it, but we shall see.

hmmmm.....

Interesting. I much prefer a sedan with an aluminum chassis to keep things light with an assortment of engines, like a turbo V6, turbo V8, and a diesel V6.

BTW, I thought the 5er-sized sedan would come out before the new QP. Also, if the new QP has a hatchback, will it become the Cinqueporte?
