The S65 AMG will be offered only with 4Matic all-wheel drive, as is the case with the existing Mercedes S63 AMG, but we’re told the new S600 will be a rear-wheel-drive model.

I might be one of the few who are really glad to here this. Thanks God... great news!
This is going to help put all that power down much more effectively. Now the new S65 AMG is head to head with the
new Bentley Flying Spur, which Mercedes intended.

I think the issue people have with 4Matic is the omission of MBC. Reviews of the S 63 reveal disappointment in ride quality vs MBC.

S 65 AMG in Rotterdam

The vehicle itself will only be the long version V222 (with MBC - Magic Body Control) and sprints supposedly in 4 seconds to 100 km/hour (11.6 liters per 100km). The premiere of the vehicle will take place at the LA Auto Show in November 2013. 11.6L/100km. ? I highly doubt that since my fuel consumption is between 9 and 13mpg.
I guess there will be some improvements come fuel consumption but I highly doubt that it will be enough to achieve the above figures.

Agreed, sounds a bit optimistic. To compare, the current one is rated at 14.5 L/100 km, using the 5G-TRONIC.

Yeah, 14.5 L/100km. is optimistic too. I'm sure I can achieve 15mpg but nothing better irl
People say they can do 17mpg max but I guess that's when they put their granma behind the wheel

2014 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG confirmed for L.A. launch next month


Could have 630 HP

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed the 2014 S65 AMG will be unveiled next month at L.A. Auto Show.
The motor show will take place between November 22 and December 1 where the German marque will show off the V12-powered S-Class which is rumored to pack as much as 630 HP (463 kW) from its 6.0-liter engine. The power will be sent to an AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT seven-speed transmission and should enable the high-performance luxury sedan to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in four seconds. The 2014 S65 AMG will allegedly return 20 mpg US (24.3 mpg UK or 11.6 liters / 100 km).
In terms of design, we already saw the car completely uncovered during the shooting of a commercial and appears to be tastefully restrained. We will be able to see it in all of its V12 glory around November 20 during the first press day of the Los Angeles Auto Show. Deliveries are expected to commence March next year.
