M3/M4 [Spy Shots] 2014 BMW M3 (Impressions, SpyPhotos, Renderings)

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M
Just look at E92 and E92 LCI. LED are 10x better. Why does Audi use LEDs? Why does the new S Class not have even one single normal bulb? Get over it. Bulbs are a thing of yesterday, today are LEDs. You tell me the same thing why I complain the new Ferraris and the new GT3 have no manual.

Not offereing LED at IPO is just a BMW strategy, and you want to make me think it is reasonable decision because "LED's are worse". BMW not building an M Supercar is because they don't have the resources compared to Audi or Mercedes, and you want to make me think they don't need one. I'm excited to see the first ones bashing all other supercars once the M1 successor or whatever is out.

I agree with Levi AND Sunny.

HA!

But you guys are talking about two different kinds of LEDs:

Functional and non functional bling-bling.
Like, the brake lights and blinkers of the M3 (Levi) vs some random row of LED lights in the front just for the sake of it (Sunny)

Indeed I'm not talking about "bling-bling" LED's like VAG, but about the identity and light quality of BMW LEDs. Two round headights have been a BMW identity, since the E39 LCI enhanced by corona rings. Too bad VW is coping BMW DRL to such extent, even KIA didn't dare to go do far. It shows the lack of inspiration of VAG.

When you opt for Xeon you get LED in the front lights and rear lights. Only missing is LED blinkers and brake light in rear windows but they do absolutly nothing for the design of the whole car. Only reason to add those missing LEDs are for safety reasons, not for the design.

F30 looks just as great like M3 E92

When off, there is no difference, but when on, you can see the difference in lights quality.
Yes they are on when you use the blinkers and when you brake but it still temprorary and does absolutly nothing for the design when the car is standing still or moving. I would understand you if you talked about safety reasons but LED doesnt transform the car do something different just because you add LED blinkers.

My pictures above show that F30 is great looking car even without LED.

And would look even greater with LED technology.

If you don't agree, please remove all LEDs from your car. And if you buy the F32, don't tick the LED technology option. ;)

But that is completely besides the point.
And you can neatly see the LED design when the car is parked and turned off, too.
You speak like it transform the car into the most beautiful thing on earth.
Both you and Levi are coming up with some really bad explanations why its needed. If it was for safety reasons then fine.

I don't think you properly read my text, because I never said it was 'needed'. There is a difference between wanting and needing.

The F30 lacks some LED lights here and there because of costs, that's my view on it (I've stated that in the past already, you've probably read it). The 6er can be ordered with all LED in every single light on the car because it's much more expensive and margins are higher. Same with 7er and probaly the 5er from LCI on.

Either way, I am no LED fetishist, and already fed up with this nonsense. All I am saying is that LED blinkers/brake lights/headlights enhance the look of a car, either way. When driving or when turned off. They add safety, last longer, use less energy, look sophisticated and are more expensive

So if I come up with a bad explantion to answer the question "why is it needed", can you then give a good explanation "why it is not needed"?

I already explained how I feel...

Your explanation is no better. Klier just gave the right explanation. Whether it is needed or not is another irrelevant question. I personally don't like HUD, I find it useless. Many wanted it on their E9X. Now they have it on their F30. Same for LEDs. So get over it. You'll see how much better and fesher the F30 LCI will look like with LEDs.

Levi, you did talk how LED improve the look of the car which I said it doesnt. It's good for safety reasons, nothing else and that my friend is real good explanation.
Thats what I've been saying here.

I fully disagree. That is why everybody is free to have there own opinion. For me LED technology improves the look of a modern car. For me the F30 LCI will look better than F30. Now, I'm glad the 4 Series will have full LED technology. Those who don't want that, like you, just don't tick the option, and those like me will be happy the option is available. Like this, everybody is satisfied.

:)

This LED fixation reminds me of these cars.com videos for used GT3s where the clueless chick goes on to tell you the reasons to buy a GT3 include "keyless entry, power windows, power door locks, leather seats...". http://video.dmotorworks.com/video/CarVideo.html?d=CC13379&stock=2P545&w=583&h=425 :D

You have Xenon lights, not LED. Just sayin. And your blinkers are ordinary bulbs. You're completely missing the point with those pics.

And yeah, we all know the corona rings are LED. Which they are on every single BMW...

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
