M3/M4 [Spy Shots] 2014 BMW M3 (Impressions, SpyPhotos, Renderings)

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M
Why? Because Mercedes is cheating with its weight specs? :)
German Sport Auto is measuring actual weight in their tests. They made a comparison Panamera/M5/E63.
Guess what?
E63 weight 1941kg
M5 weight 1963 kg

That means to me: LaArtist post is worth nothing - just citing Mercedes bullshit data ;)

LOL, that's awesome.

@LaArtist sorry buddy, the E63 is a fat pig as well, like every other MB.

Both have almost the same power to weight ratio but C2S is lighter, so I think Carrera S will still be faster around a track. My prediction, new M3 will probably do a 7:50-7:55 on normal tires. Carrera S did 7:44 in Supertest.

I would say your opinion is right on the money, with the advance in technology and weight savings the car should not only corner better but accelerate and brake better too.

Yes. But The i8 and M3/M4 use a more progressive version of Active Sound , not like the M135i , M5 and M6.

The M3 and M4 are just the beginning but we will see an advancement in lightweight technology for other future M models, perhaps on a level of the i3 and i8 in the future , but the i3 and i8 will lead the progress to further advancements , even in its current guise we could see an M5 CRT but the next generation M5 will be even more progressive in the future.

Scott i think That dr Reithofer Said during à meeting That the next 7 séries Will heavily use carbon fiber (-200kg) the next 5 Also but at a lesser extand Level (-100/150kg ?) but not The next 3 (not the M) regarding cost do you confirm ?

New M3 crashes at ring.

Doesn't look too bad to me but clearly the test driver was so distressed about it they called for the doc to give him a sedative. :p

The next generation of BMWs will lead a lightweight revolution , of course CFRP will be the driving force for some models , with serious extensive use of the material within BMWi and BMW M.

But of course you do not want to give everything away on the core car when you have a high performance model waiting in the wings , so there will be further lightweight developments on the M5 than the standard 5er.
BMW, though will use other materials within the core range as a fully fledged core BMW with CFRP modul like the BMWi cars will more likely appear in the next decade.

The next generation of BMWs utilise CFRP in the heavier areas of the car and of course this will be mixed with other formats of lightweight technology such as aluminium , magnesium and pressed hardened steel over the architecture and body shell but clothed in CFRP body panels in the roof , trunk and bonnet. The 5er and 6er will follow suit.

Where the M3/ M4 are now in the use of lightweight technology just about scratches the surface , but there is further possibilities and because they are thinking about extra models with an M3 and M4 badge that there can be further application especially of CFRP in a more progressive model in areas untouched on the standard car , but you know they will save that for the absolute pinnacle of model the M3 and M4.

Looks fab! BMW woke-up with a BANG! in seat design and execution, about time I say.;)
I never could understand why Audi S&RS got to have the coolest looking sofa's(y)

Couldn't agree more and their diamond pattern on their latest versions is a visual delight.

The only "progress" that can be made with any new version of Active Sound is the ability to turn it off via iDrive.

Before you go the full Kanye...

The ACTUAL sound of the car is amplified through the cars sound system now. Which is how it will be from now on.

I'm more interested in those CF seats that are supposed to be available optionally. Those will look bad ass, because a sportscar shouldn't even have 'sofa's' to begin with ;)

Composite seats! Nearly slipped my mind. Those are going to be bad-ass indeed. 'Sofa's' only by way of speach Dutchman:D

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
