Spy Shots Spied: The Audi RS7, RS6 Avant spotted with engine shot!

Who will buy this over a M5... not to talk about its direct competitor the M6 GC :)

That's like saying who would buy anything other than an M3? Well the answer is plenty because those who either want or need AWD can't get it with an M5, so whether it's quicker or not doesn't have that much of an influence if it doesn't have something you need.

Whether it will be a genuine competitor for the M5 will depend of how much twisting power Audi can get from their smaller by 10% engine, I would have thought a bare minimum of 550hp would be needed but the real figure that's important is its torque because the 500ft/lbs of the M5 is mighty.

If Quattro really bring the RS models earlier, M GmbH will be in big difficulty. IMO 550 PS will be enough for the RS6, regardless AWD, as it will be lighter than the M5. Maybe the S63Tu is a better engine than the Audi engine but at afterall the difference isn't that big as both are FI, and Audi does have some advance, as before BMW was focused on NA.

^ Apart from anything else the actual details as to what it will weight, output etc are unknown so it's really pointless to discuss.

Oh damn... Can't wait for this. Can't wait! The S6 already seems to be a great car, so I bet the RS6 will have the magic that the RS6 V10 didnt have. I mean, it sure is crazy fast in the straights, but hope they bring some magic out of it when the road gets curvey.. ala RS4 B7, R8 style!

Bring it on!! And god please bring on the sedan to!

I know we don't want to discuss the competition on this thread but it's hard not to when we want to make references to weight, power, even gearbox choice because we need a reference point and that happens to be the M5 and E63.

So, output, weight and gearbox..... what do you think. Personally I can't see the RS6 matching the 580hp of the last model if the weight does actually come down on this occasion, probably it's fair to assume something in between the 550hp of the E63PP and the old car. Weight, the last one weighed a sizable 2100kgs (total weight) and frankly this figure needs to drop but I can't believe it will drop much below 2000kg so probably a drop of 125kgs is possible and lastly the gearbox, Audi needs to give this car a S/Tronic because these transmissions are as good as a proper auto and it's more in line with what one expects now.

Some dude on a swedish carboard said the new RS6 would get 600hp and another 650hp with a performance kit and Ceramic brakes to be included in the base price. But I can only assume he was dreaming.

As far as weight, rumors keep suggesting that more "Ultra" components will be utilized, and further weight loss will be implemented for the RS project. I'm fairly certain this car will have DSG as well so no need to worry about that.

I would say he's dreaming because unless Audi price the RS6 significately more expensive than either of it's two direct rivals the objective would be to shadow what they have to offer and that includes price and performance.

125kg is a fair old drop in weight, much more than the regular A6 so I think my estimates are probably close. As for DSG, it's unknown the actual torque figures for the RS6 engine but it's going to be at least on par with the S8 which doesn't have DSG so it's not a done deal to assume S/Tronic will be there, though I have heard rumors that a dual clutch has been developed and tested to cope with more torque than any current Audi has to offer so I guess we will know soon enough.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the E-tron spyder produces the same amount of torque as the S8,and it's coupled with a DSG. So it's not like it can't be done. I think for the S8 the the 8 speed ZF was chosen for fuel efficiency.

I believe you are correct, the e-tron spyder has 650Nm which is the same figure as the S8. Though I think the box being tested is capable of much more than 650Nm.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
