7 Series (G70/G71/G73) [Rumors] BMW (G70) 7-Series Facelift (Spy pics & info)

The G70/G71/G73 is the seventh generation of the BMW 7 Series, produced since July 2022. It comprises of the following model codes: G70 (short-wheelbase), G71 (long-wheelbase), and G73 (high-security). It has an electric variant, the BMW i7, along with Inline 6 740i and V8 760i models.
That's just camo, allied to weird camera focal length. Like any facelift, no sheetmetal's going to change. Bumpers, lights (maybe) & grill...

The whole front is plastic! Did you see the facelift of the previous 7er or did you forget about it? Vastly different front on that car, yet a mere facelift with no sheetmetal change.

Of course I did. Big change in "persona" and down-the-road image but no fundamental change to proportions, silhouette etc. Body panels are body panels...

if you look at the spy photographs you can see the lower edge of the kidney grille. The base outline looks as if it flares out rather than today’s vertical outline.
The front will probably have, if that patent was correct a v-shaped facia far more dramatic than today’s car. They might create something around the top lights, a lower ledge maybe? Or even have a grille connecting shard from the headlights. The Grille of course will be larger and be the focal point. Maybe around this size ? But it will descend more.

Almost becoming those memes where the front of the car was the grille.
I think the shape owes more to the more dramatic outline seen on the XM and recently resized for the X3.

For the GKL models.

Please for the sake of all that is holy do NOT look like that abomination....

Just fix the front end and I'm a fan. After briefly riding in one I'm hoping they fix it. Beautifully luxurious car on the go.

Not the greatest render but here we go. In spy shots the actual headlights appear to be placed lower than before, and they are more squared now.
The top DRL’s probably won’t change but adapt something NK-esque, with the vertical LED’s.
I think the lower headlight units could be easier to hide with the lower bumper, so it wouldn’t look as offensive.

I wasn't talking about proportions and silhouettes, I was talking about the front. Which is undoubtedly going to change.

Yes, sure it is. It's possible that the front-end will be quite different, but I doubt this will have any effect on the fundamental issues such as the long & high schnoz, tall narrow frontal aspect etc.

The last gen 7 pre and post face lift had a very diff front both in terms of design but also height. The post face lift was flat, pre facelift hood sloped down some.

I think @martinbo 's point is that no matter how they style or dress it, because of the engineering and plaform requirements, the front end will remain as blunt as ever in terms of proportion; height, width etc.

If the rumours are correct then the X7 comes with a grille within a facia. It is likely the i7/7 will get something similar. Under the camouflage we see a V outline and the bottom of kidney grille that flares out more.
They do say that the GKL will be more distinctive than other models especially the Neue-Klasse in which their SAV’s will use the central taller thinner kidney grille compared to the standard series with its wide facia kidney grille for a universal language that will filter onto other models.

Which is nonsense as pointed out by the previous 7er.
I very much agree with some aspect which are not going to change, but the front is not one of them. It's entirely a plastic facade, which is easy to change radically.

Unless there are more stringent passenger safety requirements, which force the hood to stay flat which in turn would make the front very blocky

Compared to the current Pre-LCI version the nose of this mule seems much longer and pointier. The grill could be different. I don't find it any more elegant in my opinion.

Nice find @Rolf. I had to crop and straighten the photo to see what appears to be happening here. The LCI 7er has a shorter front overhang in the grafting. The nose is flatter, and the hood line is slightly more wedge-shaped. This nip and tuck will reduce the height and bulk on the front, (especially the overhang issue) and maybe the whole car in effect. The more sloping hood line blends better with the angle of the boot than the pre-LCI version IMO.

That's exactly what I was getting from the spy shots. Thanks for taking the time for articulating it properly.

Very illustrating. I guess BMW is trying to partially revert what started with the G11 FL: making the flagship sedan less sporty and more bulky.

Problem might be the G70 is so blocky from all angles that giving the car a more dynamic front end might not be enough. But it will probably contribute to improving the car looks.

I would change the entire front end to make it look more like the XM, but without the splitted headlights.
