5 Series [Rumors] Any word on details of 2020 5er LCI?

The BMW 5 Series is an executive car manufactured and marketed by BMW since 1972. The car is sold as either a sedan or, since 1991, a station wagon (marketed as "Touring"). A 5-door fastback (marketed as "Gran Turismo") was sold between 2009 and 2017. Each successive generation has been given an internal G-code designation since 2017. Previously, a F-code designation was used between 2010 and 2016, while an E-code designation was used between 1972 and 2010. These are used to distinguish each model and generation from each other.

BMW interior design is cyclic; in one generation you get avantgarde yet polarising and more prone to dating (vis-a-vis E60/E90). In another you get conservative yet classic vibes and an interior that will stand the test of time e.g. E39/E46.

It's older, and has been whored out across the range, and has glaring quality shortcomings, but aesthetically it doesn't suffer as much as the 5 series interior IMO. It's a subjective opinion and there's not point arguing about it.

This past week I sat in this M5 interior. It looked fab.

My point is not about your feelings about the 5 series interior but rather that your argument is contradictory.

Saying the E interior you find in almost every Mercedes Benz on sale today is still fresh and over an interior that only appeared in 3 models is contradictory.

If I'm not mistaken the 5 interior was first seen on the 7 then 5 and then X3.

So if you find the 5 interior outdated the E interior is Fing ancient.
Isn't same for MB? First it was shown on S and C, then on E?

Visually, while I prefer the more minimalisitic aesthetics of the newer BMW interiors (X5/6/7, 3er, etc.), I think for daily use, the 5er, 7er and X3 are better. Quality is quite good for both.

Now regarding the 5er's current exterior, that's a different story. It's a bit too understated. Hopefully the facelift (I still have issues with calling it "Life Cycle Impulse") will help address it.

Your dealer must love you too give you an M5 loaner :D

A family member has an M850i and it's always in the shop.

They are doing their best to keep us happy as they understood from the outset that my dad is a diehard MB customer moving from an S-class. I think BMW really wants more business at the upper end and it is a very small market in Australia.

That's terrible news about your family members M850i. Is it a coupe of GC? I'd love to hear more...

Our vehicle has had issues that a vehicle in this class just shouldn't have. Coming from an S-class which performed faultlessly from day one to the end, this is hugely disappointing. Thank god the dealership has been nothing short of amazing to deal with. I could not speak highly enough of them at this stage.

Now we are way off topic. :D

This is the M5 I had for 2 days. It looked drab and da...

Ok, I semi get what you're saying about the interior of the M5....

....but MY GOD man, you had an M5 CP and you don't even write a little review about what you thought of the drivetrain, power and pure madness you were driving? Really?

Sad to hear. What were the issues if I may ask? You can quote me in the 8er thread if you want so we can keep it on topic here.

With these modern day cars it's like a lottery.

I know of 2 people who bought the exact same car with different trim levels and the one car is perfect while the other has been to the dealership twice in a time period of 2 months for electrical problems.

I completely get what you are saying. The 7 is the prime example. The exterior is on point IMO, the interior is a big let down. I wonder how much extra engineering effort it would have taken to integrate the newer info/ HVAC controls on the center console/ they could have gone rogue and done something truly special. That said I understand why they do what they did. The 7 isn’t a volume seller like the S. Investing money into a lowish volume product is bad business

I look forward to reading more about this in another thread.
