Macan [Renders] 2021 Porsche Macan E

The Porsche Macan is a compact luxury crossover SUV (D-segment) produced by Porsche since 2014. It is the smaller SUV from Porsche below the Cayenne. The first-generation Macan went on production from February 2014 with petrol and diesel engine options. In 2024, Porsche released the second-generation Macan which is a battery electric vehicle built on the dedicated Premium Platform Electric (PPE) EV platform.
I test drove a Macan Turbo two weeks ago. I was impressed. My concern was it would feel quite a step back from my Taycan GTS, but it really feels like a premium SUV as opposed to an entry level one. It goes without saying the performance was incredible, faster on paper than my Taycan GTS. But it didn't necessarily feel like it. It wasn't explosive like the Taycan. It just builds and builds and doesn't stop. It had rear-axle steering optioned (it comes with PASM as standard), which turns more than the RAS on my Taycan.

Anyway, yesterday I placed an order for a Turbo, due to be built at the beginning of December.
It’s big isn’t it? My neighbor just got a 4 and it looos almost as big as the Cayenne Coupe.

For those of you who have been able to test the car, is there any perceived decrease in interior quality as has been described for the latest 911, Panny and Cayenne?

I spent a little bit of time in it and it felt as good as the current generation in terms of build and finish. Perhaps there are hidden areas of cost cutting that a longer term experience will unveil.

I actually spent some time in it at a Porsche dealership very recently but I was negatively surprised about the (low) quality lof plastics, also at higher parts in the interior. While I am not a Porsche driver, I would have expected something better as I don’t think it beats Audi, BMW and MB in the interior department, far from it.

I'll be sure to check it out in closer details when it launches down under at the end of the year.

I drive a BMW iX1, and compared to this vehicle, you find less hard plastic in the Macan E. However, I was surprised that the difference isn't as big as I had expected. I was a bit disappointed with the new 911 (had a go with the base version aswell), as there's quite a lot of hard plastic on the center console. You can definitely feel the cost-cutting across the board. Personally, I also noticed a significant difference between the new Panamera, which was in the showroom, and the new Macan E or Taycan. Fit and finish was superb though.

With Porsche, you have to pay to cover the plastic.

I suspect the car I saw had the kitchen sink thrown at it in terms of additional trims.

But at least Porsche let's you option up. With the other Germans you have no choice but to put up with a lot of the crap plastics.

Two spots where I believe Porsche visibly and needlessly cut costs are regarding the storage pockets behind the front seats, which have gone from leather in the ICE Macan to those dreaded nets in the EV, and the removal of the carpet/felt lining in the door pockets, which means rattling if anyone throws anything in there.

For all the engineers and people in the company who are supposed to elevate their products, I think these are two areas where they really dropped the ball.

Porsche and their weak designers, Macan EV has same poor seat back design. Everyone sitting in the back in my Taycan was annoyed by that bulky piece of plastic.

Yeah, this is what I was pleasantly surprised about. On paper it's not much bigger than the ICE Macan, but in reality it looks significantly bigger on the outside, and also much bigger on the inside.

I got an email yesterday to say my production has moved forward by one month and my spec was about to lock. Luckily I managed to get down to the dealer before they closed to find a few more ways to part with my money. The last option I specced was possibly the most extravagent, but it's now perfect...

On the Macan Turbo, it comes with the 18-way sports seats as standard. They have a non-illuminated "Turbo" logo located in the top part of the seat (see below):

But, you can also spec an illuminated "Porsche" logo (see below):

Now, I loved the illuminated "M4" logo in my F82 M4 Coupe, but I didn't want the script changing from "Turbo" to "Porsche". So I was going to stick with the standard...until I found out you can actually personalise the illuminated logo to anything of your choice, with the ability to have different script on each seat. Imagine the levels tackiness you could achieve by speccing your own name and your girlfriend's name (my wife would be livid with that). So, I went with the "Turbo" script, illuminated. The rendering doesn't do it justice, and the light isn't blue. The background is Turbonite, which matches the trim and stitching in the leather seats, and also the window trim and 22" RS Spyder rims, which are also in Turbonite.

They've been quite snappy with orders. My mother's Macan is getting here next week (in frozen berry, nonetheless).

Makes me wonder just how high the demand is for these, they usually don't fulfill orders this quickly.

I am sure you will definitely post pics like you always do with all of the zillion vehicles you/your partner/mother/neighbor/neighbor's aunt/aunt's maid own? Oh wait...

Just kidding. It all sounds a bit "Cooper-ish" though.

What colour is your Moms Macan
