As for insurance premiums our iX is cheaper to insure than the A6 it replaced.

Our iX is a big heavy AWD, ICE vehicles of the same size and weight are also hard on tires. I believe a lot of the issue is down to many EV drivers enjoying the rapid acceleration they have, which wears out tires. Slower EV's like Leafs or similar don't appear to have tire issues. It's just another beat up.

EV cars ARE heavier, and therefor they are hard on tires (and on the road surface), this is basic physics. I don’t think many EV drivers like to accelerate rapid. Its not so fun, even with 4x4 you easy overwhelm the eco tyres and after a few blasts you have no battery left.
 
Presumably you mean via the North Sea ferry, which is not the route I take.

My route is via Belgium, France, and then via the Channel Tunnel, and then via our property in Surrey. I'll be doing that very journey in two days, leaving my house at 1900, arriving in Yorkshire at 0630 the next day. I will make the exact same journey in return two days later, which is a total journey of 1,002 miles (1,613km).

I think that would be considered a "long distance journey" by most people.

That's not what I said. The discussion was about EV insurance being higher than ICEs. I then used examples of my own cars' premiums not increasing. You've pivoted now by talking about ALL insurance.

You seem to find it difficult to focus on what is being discussed. Not once have I said EVs don't cost more to insure in the UK. What I *have* said is that in Holland, in my experience at least, there is no difference between ICE and EV, and nor have insurance premiums increased measurably in the last two years FOR ANY CARS. What has increased massively is my UK-registered Polo.

It's actually 12 and a half hours. You forgot to take into account gaining one hour due to the time change.

That time includes all stoppages, such as checking in at the Channel Tunnel, going via my property in Surrey, toilet breaks (I travel with my wife, a 4-year-old, and a 2-year-old).

I'm also going to be travelling at a slower speed than normal from Surrey to Yorkshire in order to avoid arriving at my mum's house at 4am.

I've done 500 journeys like this over the last 24 years. There's nothing you can tell me about it that I don't know already. I also have most of them from 2011 logged in a spreadsheet (I'm nerdy like that). My quickest journey from Yorkshire to Holland is 6 hours 48 minutes on 5th August 2012 in a C-Class diesel. That's not just travelling time, but door-to-door including the Channel Tunnel. You can't get away with that nowadays.

Charging doesn't add any time to my journeys. After two and a half hours we have to stop anyway because somebody needs the toilet. This would be the same if I was in an ICE. And the Taycan charges so quickly that it is usually ready to go before we've used the toilet. In ten minutes I can add enough power to get to the next stop over two hours away. Charging isn't a faff using Plug&Charge; you literally plug the cable in and everything else is taken care of, such as payment which is automatically added to my Porsche account.

I've looked at all my journeys from Yorkshire to Holland last year, and they're all around 9 hours 45 minutes to ten hours dead, door-to-door, whether it's in my ICE cars or my Taycans.

And even if it did take half-an-hour longer in my BEVs, the cost per km for the round trip would be around 6.3 € ct per km in the Taycan. Compare that with an equivalent performance ICE car, such as the G80 M3 I owned in 2022 at 21.4 € ct per km for the exact same journey, then I could accept a slightly longer journey time.

Taycan at €100.80 for the return journey or M3 at €342.4? The Taycan is a much more special place to be too.


Buy a porsche EV they said, lower running costs they said.

Not a single one of those issues is specific to EVs. Cracked rims? Missed service? Worn tyres?


I don't know what your point with all this is, but you seem to be trying to convince me my Taycan doesn't work by showing me my OWN evidence is wrong and that I should take notice of *your* evidence. 😂

Actually not even new ones. I had a 2007 BMW with a M steering wheel and it was ridicolous thick - perfect size for Andre the Giant, but not for normal people.

I think BMW did this in recognition that all of their BMW drivers are wankers...and preferred a thicker grip.

I have to agree, bubbly butt. The Cayenne Coupe looks much better.
 
Its missing the roof spoiler of the ICE Macan. I think this would help a lot with the rear and profile.

yes, removing the roof spoiler makes it a little odd from the rear. I guess they want it to have the same roof line as the 992. Anyway in this horrible orange colour it looks ugly from all angles.

I can't shake the feeling that Porsche's decision to stick with the split headlights rather than enlarging the top unit saved under-the-skin production dollars between the Macan and Q6 e-tron, and the omission of flush door handles is another sad miss that could have made this car sleeker.

I like it better than I thought I would, but this car is highly color-sensitive and the details still throw me off. I look forward to seeing it in person and hope it comes off better in the flesh, but I'm not teeming with optimism.
