Macan [Renders] 2021 Porsche Macan E

The Porsche Macan is a compact luxury crossover SUV (D-segment) produced by Porsche since 2014. It is the smaller SUV from Porsche below the Cayenne. The first-generation Macan went on production from February 2014 with petrol and diesel engine options. In 2024, Porsche released the second-generation Macan which is a battery electric vehicle built on the dedicated Premium Platform Electric (PPE) EV platform.
Ironically for a Porsche, it's reasonably priced compared either overpriced and ugly EVs from fellow German car manufacturers. A bonus for the Macan is the strong residual values and the EV won't be an exception.
Ummm… have you seen the residuals on the Taycan???

Went through the normal routine from Porsche configuration website even not going to put an EV in garage. Just imagine if this would have been an ICE Macan launch, not impressed with either interior or exterior design, especially with relocation of shift lever, and plastic fender molding. After digesting several high quality videos from all angles and design details, it's very "Not Porsche". Both front and rear bumpers have uncanny valley lines which don't flow well with overall silhouette. (e.g. Turbo rear bumper with extra air inlets) There is already range anxiety on EV, not sure how much massage chair will ease that tension on the go!

I like it. Right spec and colour combo and it looks good.

Same can be said for the ICE Macan and most cars TBF.

For example I'm not a fan of the Macan GTS without the GTS Sport Package exterior.

How I would spec it. I'm very fond of it! However, 141,000 swiss francs (or 163,000 US dollars) is quite a substantial amount.

I'm very satisfied with my iX1, so I'm curious to see what the next iX3 will offer. But for now, the Macan seems like a promising successor to my iX1 (in about 3 years).
These are going to be everywhere in Switzerland. It'll basically be the VW Golf of Zürich.

The Hyundai Ionic 5 N costs half a Macan Turbo, has more power and will arguably drive better. It will be very interesting to see these go head to head. Can't wait for that.

Uhm yeah, but it's not quite normal to see 5 different Chirons casually drive between 25 GT3s. Zurich is a different breed LOL, it's on equal foot with Monte Carlo.

The EV most certainly will. No-one wants a second hand EV. Not even a modded Audi Q6 named Macan.
And the ICE Macan will be taken out of production in the EU this very year due to cybersecurity problems (don't ask me the details)

It's not about a package, ugly launch color or weird rims for me. It's about the overall proportions which are just wrong.
Even though the overhang has decreased, there are other aspects that make this car look like an egg instead of Macan.

I was flying back from Cape Town a couple hours after they released the Macan, and I could already overhear a phone call, a gentleman telling assumedly his son to lease it due to the resale value.

Rich people are smart.

BTW, a new Macan Turbo EV with 640 hp is cheaper than a base 260 hp ICE Macan over here. LOL
And the Macan 4 is the cheapest Porsche on sale in my country. A f'ing bargain at around 80k. Just too bad for Porsche that the Ionic 5 N is still cheaper than a Macan 4 and more powerful than a Turbo.

Klier you are welcome to move here anytime ☺️☺️

There are several things to like with the new Macan (and Porsche in general) that other manufacteurs should learn from:
- avoiding a huge dominant screen in the dashboard (are there anyone that integrates the screen better than Porsche?)
- maintaining physical buttons and avoiding to put all functions into one screen
- a round steering wheel
- normal door handles, not the stupid and annoying pop-ups
- clean design with classic and normal proportions

Instead of one 'dominant' screen, you get a dominant dash. With screens integrated late 90s style as if they are old school tube TVs hiding their fat butts.
I personally think it's bad, and also think it will age like milk. This really is something I'd expect from Honda, not Porsche. That passenger screen is completely useless, there's literally nothing it adds which couldn't just be done on a central screen.

Also, Mercedes integrates their screens just as neatly with their hyperscreen. And I have the exact same complaints regarding those interiors. It simply looks outdated to me. It's been done like this for literal decades. The E38 7er came with such integration for crying out loud.

Where would that be?

Cannot agree more.
Especially about the inside. It‘s one of the interiors that doesn‘t look like an afterthought sticking a horizontal screen on a conventional dash or struggling where to glue an oversized iPad.

Porsche cares a lot not only on the ergonomy but on their non ofensive tech.
The attention to remain the retro vibe dictated by the 911 shows its result and it‘s a good thing.

Together with the Polestar 3 it‘s the best allaround EV SUV in looks and tech combined IMO.

This is a photo of the PPE platform from 2019. They changed almost nothing. That's not good. This platform is already dated. Everything is too big and heavy. The motors (no direct stator wire cooling in 2024?), BMS, AC/DC converter is huge.
I hope it doesn't weight around 2400kg.

Should be 1900 kg max with current technology.

Zeekr 001 with 140 kWh battery weights 2345 kg and that's a bigger car with outdated motors. Skoda Enyaq weights around 2300kg with 82kWh battery. Just terrible from the VW Group.

I have a feeling BMW and Mercedes platforms coming next year will be significantly more advanced.

To be fair , it's also very boring...

It's the most dated UI in the car industry. And Macan still uses the "last gen" , and it will age poorly.

But at least it has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto , I guess...

The next platform can be expected by the end of the decade. But still the PPE and the software is the best tech you will get from Germany these years, the most solid to built a lineup on. The PPE is the most efficient hardware and soft combo, at least on paper.
Taycan has impressive figures for an already „old“ pioneer so the Macan should top that easily in IRL on the new platform.

The announced Neue Klasse has a standard tech which is more similar to the Hyundai IONIQ solutions from few years ago, nothing innovative, but it‘s still 2 more years to launch, the competitors are not waiting them.

Mercedes will focus on efficency, but as well as BMW until they won‘t have a proper soft as Lucid or Tesla everything will go down to huge and heavy battery packs or blob styling like the EQ line.

Bro, porsche used values are getting hit hard, and taycans particulary.

Private sells for EV’s are falling, only business sales are increasing due to the tax breaks

In countries like Norway where EV's are the only game in town residuals are ok, they haven't fallen through the floor. When markets switch over to EVs used prices will firm up, it's inevitable.

Only if legislation forces it. In a open free market EV’s will continue in its residual value freefall

Brand new EV’s with a RRP of 38k arent even selling at dealer auctions with starting bids of 15k

Rental companies are saying people that rent a EV for the first time dont want a EV at their next rental event.

Most people just dont want them.

And then theres the ecological fallout from all the precious metal mining that I think will eventually catch up to us. Could end up with a betamax/diesel situation
