So many plot twists I didn't foresee coming! The non E-performance M177 in two states of tune is something I had no knowledge of whatsoever
There were leaks in March 2020 about a few engine options. One was an SL 55 S.

Hence why I was asking, whether an SL 55 S might come.

Ah yes, I stopped looking at this awhile back as things were no longer matching up. For example, the "73" badging turned into "63 S E Performance" in the AMG GT 4-door. I'm still in the dark in regards if all those trims are going to come into fruition and in which markets.

I thought the SL55 was the Inline-6 coupled with the electric motor? The numbers seem to suggest it. Much prefer the "SL55" nomenclature vs. SL53 as it alludes to the wildly successful R230 SL55 AMG.

Would have preferred SL73 over SL63e... as it'd been a nice throw-back to the Renntech-fettered R129 SL73. Granted those had those monster V12, but still...

In the training today they confirmed the SL55 is V8 as well. The horsepower is similar to the "53" I6 models but the torque confirms it's a V8. Hopefully we'll get some more insight soon in regards to the other trims that will be rolling out in various markets.

Mercedes is certainly doing things differently nowadays. We are seeing almost the entire car before release.

It is a surprise to me that the car is 3 inches longer than the old car, because it looks a bit stubbier. With 4 inches of extra wheelbase, the overhangs were shortened by just a combined inch. I suppose there is no way around that in this body style.

The 55 version is definitely a [pleasant] surprise. It is essentially the AMG GT tune, whereas the 63 is the GT R tune. It is a reassuring choice AMG has made here, at least for the US marker. I actually have my doubts on whether we will get an E Performance model.

I am surprised the car is longer too, but I definitely knew it wasn’t SLK sized like some in here thought.

I think the rollout for this car is being done purely because of the delays. I personally think we’re going to get the e performance eventually- it’s not unusual for them to roll out the hottest models later. The car was engineered for the hybrid powertrain so it seems like an easy opportunity for profit IMO. Chip shortage and whatnot allowing, of course.

Again the blessed streep painful tease, they do not know what is more impressive to see how little there is left to see at once .....

...on a sidenote...

Is there any news on the CLE ? Things have gone quiet following a number of prototype sightings some 3-4 months ago. Could this have to do with the semiconductor shortage ? Or has the project been delayed ? Or cancelled altogether ?

That car is basically done so I don't think there's much to worry about there. We'll probably see it again after the SL finally debuts.
