Range Rover Range Rover (L405)

The Land Rover Range Rover, generally shortened to Range Rover, is a 4x4 luxury SUV produced by Land Rover. The Range Rover line has been in production since it was launched in 1970 by British Leyland.
The Phantom is more prestigious but as a social symbol the Range Rover is more significant since it's a car people see everyday,

Which is why I think it's not as big a status symbol as the Rolls-Royce.

the Louis Vuitton bag like the Range Rover represent superficial wealth.

Which is exactly what I think, and a reason why it's not as big a status symbol as the Rolls-Royce.

The Range Rover is driven by someone who likes to make people think they're wealthy. The Rolls-Royce is driven by people who ARE stinky, filthy rich.

Your reasons are just supporting what I think.

It's the superficial aspect of it that makes the car so desirable - the ability to make you look successful and fit in amongst all those thousands of others driving an identical black car.

I wouldn't associate the Range Rover persona with the superficial value of a Louis Vuitton bag. It's got more gravitas than that especially taking into account it's not-inconsiderable capability.
For me this is what lends a Range Rover more status than a Roller - it's equally at home drawing up to the Ritz as it is pulling into an English country manor. That's real status for me.

I guess "image" changes from country to country. Something like an old Volvo estate is also completely at home on the school run or being driven by a Lady of the Manor. The VW Golf used to be to some extent.

Still, we could go around in circles with our opinions.

You would probably find that a Rolls-Royce Phantom customer also owns a Range Rover and there are Rolls-Royce customers who own every example of the Rolls-Royce portfolio.
In reality the new Range Rover turned out exactly as I expected it to, a very thorough overhaul with a more modern and premium appearance. I especially like how the rear C-pillar has more of a dynamic prose quite like the first Range Rover.
Had BMW still had ownership of Land Rover then this would be exactly what you would have got aswell.
What is interesting is that BMW's ethos for their Range Rover seems to be following through in regards to market demand.
if we include the recently spied extended wheelbase and more prestigious luxury models which BMW had planned to incorporate Range Rover production at its Goodwood facility alongside the Phantom.
Where the Range Rover would have the benefit in Rolls expertise and craftmanship, initially a top spec edition was to be christened Goodwood just as BMW done to the MINI which just goes to show that a prestigious edition of a volume car , in this case the MINI has a market with BMW selling every example, again to customers who have a Phantom , Ghost and possibly a Range Rover too.

I know one person as well as myself who will be taking a closer look at the Range Rover @ Paris and that will be Wolfgang Reitzle who is a frequent attendee during any autoshow press day although you probably wont recognise him now.
@ BMW The Range Rover was his baby even going to extreme lengths to evaluate and try to convince that a LWB and a V12 model would be beneficial, if rumours are correct then @ PAG , Reitzle evaluated an Aston Martin V12 in a Range Rover, it remains to be seen whether this model will incorporate a V12.
But i can still remember Reitzle's intricate attention to detail on the BMW Range Rover. He knew exactly what the car should look like and what it should feel like inside and to make his point , one morning designers and engineers turning up to Gaydon experienced a yacht on a trailer being manouvered in to the car park so Reitzle and Bangle could make their point in sheer attention to detail.

Of course the Range Rover is primed to take advantage of the rise in the luxury car market of super SUV's. The next important segment of the premium market. As manufacturers move to formulate their strategy for this growth.
Having seen examples from Bentley , Lamborghini and the latest S-Klasse like GL , Mercedes-Benz and with more to come from Maserati , Lagonda and rumours in Germany point to a Bugatti SUV being considered and of course BMW which will show off its concept next year.

Can't wait to see one in the flesh. It will probably look grander IRL than in pics. But the weight gains are most important for me. Up to 400 kilos lost? Fitted with the 4.4TDV8, it will be an absolute screamer. For a yacht. I just pray they googled the term 'RELIABILITY' before putting it together.

...........and here comes the bling. I cannot imagine the ghastly colours that tuners will paint the "Audi blade" in. Orange blade on black car coming right up.

I would love to see more photos of that interior. It seems to be the top-end one with center 5.1 system and a decked out armrest extending all the way back.

Those fake vents on the front doors are very very tacky, and it is very unlike Range Rover to have such pointless details on a very functional vehicle.

I'm really looking forward to the RR, they've raised the bar in terms of R&D for a SUV. Hopfully all quality issues have been resolved.

They are needed to make the sides of the car look less bland. However the way the vents join with that long ass chrome strips is utterly ridiculous.

The RR is a stunner. It will be all over North Dallas by next summer. The interior is the best in the segment. GL looks as good on the outside, maybe be better to some, but the interior is above anything else in the SUV market.
