Range Rover [Official] Range Rover Face Lift (L405)

The Land Rover Range Rover, generally shortened to Range Rover, is a 4x4 luxury SUV produced by Land Rover, a marque and sub-brand of Jaguar Land Rover. The Range Rover line has been in production since it was launched in 1970 by British Leyland. Additional models have been launched under the Range Rover name, including the Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Evoque, and Range Rover Velar.
That didn't take long, I wonder which Jag will be the first to receive it?

Range Rover gains 395bhp Ingenium straight-six petrol

Land Rover has added its new 395bhp Ingenium straight-six petrol engine to the Range Rover. It's available to order now, priced from £83,655.

First introduced on the Range Rover Sport, the new turbocharged Ingenium engines will gradually replace the ageing Ford-sourced supercharged V6s in use across Jaguar and Land Rover's ranges.

The 3.0-litre unit doesn’t abandon the supercharger, though, using an electrically powered version to provide a more instant response before the twin-scroll turbocharger spools up. It also makes use of a 48V mild hybrid system, boosting efficiency by supplying torque to reduce the engine’s workload.

In the Range Rover, the engine produces 395bhp and 406 lb ft of torque, making the 2.3-tonne SUV capable of 0-60mph in 5.9sec and a top speed of 140mph. Land Rover quotes a combined economy figure of 30.4mpg and CO2 emissions of 212g/km.

Land Rover has also updated the whole Range Rover line-up with new features. These include a smartphone pack featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the ability for the headlights to dim individual LEDs that could reflect back off signposts and 'Tourist Mode', which adjusts the headlight beam for driving on the left or right of the road.

There is a feature in the RR's called ATPC. It is for off road driving. Not sure if any of guys have ever used it.

I look forward to hearing the engine as the V6 in the F-Type sounds so amazing I couldn't stop giggling when I drove one last year.

So this is take #4 for L405 ownership. Our second SVAutobiography. Paint is Spectral British Racing Green. It was an executive demo from Texas, so a hit wasn’t taken on the paint option. Bought sight unseen, so looking forward to checking out the paint when it’s here.

Our X7 ownership just wasn’t pleasant with all the technical issues it had. We had to wait until we found someone to take over the lease. With the RR, depreciation isn’t really an issue as we sold the last one to an exporter not far off MSRP.

The number one complaint about BMW is reliability. Fix that and the resale problem fixes itself. It’s the only reason why I’m hesitant to get another one. Otherwise their products are so appealingly brilliant IMO.

The new iDrive and virtual cockpit are a mess. The instrument cluster would habitually go dark while driving and there was a point where iDrive wouldn't boot properly and would subsequently reboot repeatedly to get back to functional state, even with the car off. We would find the car dead in the mornings and have to jump it ourselves before going to work. Calling roadside was a waste of everyone’s time.

Each time we alerted BMW, they would say that an update would remedy the problems, which it didn’t.

Many of the silver trim buttons are flimsy and will likely age just as bad as the F series dash buttons - which would peel and turn white over time.

I’ll likely be labeled a brand hater, but it’s just the reality of the matter for someone who lived with a X7 and gave the car many chances.

That being said, it was a fairly early build and my experience is very likely an exception compared to other X7 owners.

Those who holler “hater” are typically just fans, not owners. Can’t stress enough how much the former is irrelevant in the real world.

That is an interesting and troubling experience. I purchased an X7 40i last May and can report no issues to date with roughly 7,000 miles. There is a recall for emissions that I have not dealt with yet. Still super impressed with the ride quality.

Yup - the GLS, X7, and Q7 feel like utilitarian family SUVs compared to a high-spec Range Rover.

As I mentioned, the degree to which I had technical and software issues with the infotainment is likely an anecdotal experience. My previous BMW's were a F06 6er GC (3 years) and a E39 M5 (5 years), both of which were near flawless ownership experiences.

The X7 does ride very well. I haven't tested the GLS with E-ABC, but I will say it's second to the Range Rover in terms of ride comfort from my experience. That being said, it's not as floaty as the Range Rover, which is expected.

Our X7 has had sticking seats. They would fold flat, then stick when being raised. It’s now been fixed diagnosed as a faulty motor mechanism.

Haven't had any issues yet, just noticing the individual ivory seats in the front starting to show a little darkening which was expected.

Wow very interesting!

So you had an X7 with issues, we have an 8GC with issues and @Yaz mentioned he also has a family member with 8 series issues. Surely this can't just be coincidence. Me thinks BMW has trimmed development costs on these high end vehicles. So much for THE BMW's.

That's an extremely interesting looking green. It must be one hell of a car for you to buy #4!!!!

Hope it provides you and your family with lots of happy motoring.

Its nothing new, I've been saying this for years based on my own experience and others experiences with the 6er.
