Not picking an argument (I'm happy to be wrong) but what makes you think this?
It's hardly ever (I can't recall of any off the top of my head) where body panels are changed as part of a facelift. It's probably correct. But that doesn't change any narrative. This is what an extensive facelift does after all.

Ok, if you say so.And changing bodypanels is absolutely not rare. Every single facelift gets new bumpers, which essentially is changing a body panel.
Not to mention different character lines in doors, newly shaped boots, lights, etc. I mean, when a light is changed the body panel around it is too.
E65/66
Ok, here's what I think I've picked up:
Front wings (fenders) are different to prev gen (only on the trailing edge).
Rear bootlid below light bar is different.
Other than that, same bonnet, same roof, same pillars, same doors, same rear fenders, same rocker panels.
Let's just start with this. One of the most extensive car facelifts ever. And yet, the only sheetmetal that changed was the front edge of the bonnet (hood).
Why would they? This segment is dying. This is about as extensive facelift as you can get without making a totally new car. This is a disappointment, it’s just another evolution of previous 2 models. Even the interior is not that much different except for the passenger screen. Really boring Porsche, you could have done so much better.
Ok if you say so.![]()
