LOL, I've read a lot of stuff at forums over the years, but this one takes the cake.

Best regards,
south

Glad I'm not the only one thinking this......lol
Either way, he thinks he's hearing the V10. Now that means he either has zip clue what he's talking about, or the V8 doesn't sound all that bad. I think it's a bit of both.

And like I already said the muted V8 sound (which is the actual sound of the car at full throtle) can be heard just before that..

The sound a car makes changes depending from where you hear it... when the camera changes angle of course the engine sound will be different.

And what would be the point of inserting the V10 engine sound for all of .3 seconds?
BMW knows what they are doing, they wouldn't create an M5 with a pathetic engine. Just look at previous generations of the M5, not a single one has been the slightest bit disappointing. :usa7uh:

Not sure if this is an official BMW advert, but here is another example of dubbing the glorious sound of the V10 in place of the V8 to add more aural pleasure to the commercial. Just an example. Not necessarily implying that BMW dubbed the sound on the F10 M5 video

Because those 3 seconds I hear so far the new M5 sounds like AMG Mercedes with its deep base.

Didn't notice it, to me AMG sounds much deeper/crisper/better than that. What I can hear in the video is just muted V8 sound. But when they show the tach strangely it sounds like a high reving V10, I'm pretty sure they used the old car's noise at that particular scene. To add more drama or whatever you want to call it. And I noticed that in the previous trailer too: YouTube - ‪New BMW M5 at the test track. 2011.‬‏

See at 1:14, doesn't that sound exactly like E60 M5 ?

Chris also said that the engine sound was still under development.

Yes but I can't possibly imagine how they can make a bi-turbo V8 sound like a N/A V10..

Same engine as X5M yes bu there are ways to change the sound, like a different exhaust.

You don't get V10 induction noise by changing the exhaust, sorry.

Sorry dude but you just sound upset because BMW are abandon N/a engines ;) You are too quick to judge. I seriously doubt its going to sound awful.

Yes I am upset but I'm not quick to judge at all. If the X6m sounds awfull, this car using the same engine will sound pretty much the same too, no matter what exhaust they put on it. And from the trailers they released so far I can already tell it sounds rubbish, even if in some places they mixed the V10 sound to fool me ;)

Riiight, so when the camera is set in position A it sounds like a muted low-rev V8, and then suddenly sounds like a high reving V10 when camera set to position B :)

And what would be the point of inserting the V10 engine sound for all of .3 seconds?

To add drama, and to fool potential buyers, of course ;)

That's because not a single one of those engines was turbo-charged, my friend.

Haha nice one ! :D

"Not necessarily implying that BMW dubbed the sound on the F10 M5 video"- but highly probable none the less :P

Ah yes, because buyers of the BMW M5 simply go to www.buythenewM5.com, build their car online, click 'Add to Cart', ...and presto, a big box with a ribbon on it arrived in about a month.

I'd imagine the vast majority of M5 buyers would at least have a bit of a test drive of the car before signing on the dotted line. If there's any doubt in the buyers mind about the new M5's soundtrack, then a simple test drive should lay those thoughts (and your assertions of audio-plagiarism ) to rest pretty quickly.

From what I can remember when they video first became popular online was that it wasn't a BMW commercial, but rather a project that a few guys had created. Masterful stuff indeed...but definitely has nothing to do with BMW and their Marketing/Misleading/Mind-altering department.
And also, is the sound of the S63 V8 thaaat noticeably different to the S85 V10 ? I mean, to simply be able to pick the difference between the sound of the two motors from a video, using computer speakers, and so on? In person you may well be able to differentiate their engine and exhaust note, but from a simple video? I dunno....

I am sure the guy who took these pics heard the exhaust note as it drove away.

maybe engine noise changes from rpm to rpm, cause that deep v8 sound was at about 3,5k rpm and when you come close to redline its sound becomes like high reving n/a engine's? i dont know shit actually, but i dont know if bmw would change the character of m5 engine so drasticly, i mean all m5 engines were high reving and sounded like a sports car, now they have turbocharged engine, but they tried as hard as they could to make its technical characteristics as close to n/a as possible, so maybe they did it with its sound too.

tried to use as proper english as i could

:

Because any longer and it would be obvious it's been dubbed.

I'm not saying I think it's been dubbed. I find it hard to believe BMW would do such a thing. What I will say is that if the engine sounds so good, why is it barely audible in the video? Surely they'd want lots of examples of the sound of the engine. The simple fact is, it doesn't sound particular good or loud at all.

scott, wasnt m5 supossed to be with cf roof? or is itreserved for uber-m5 version?

No. Maybe a future lightweight version though.

And that real life shot of the Imperial Blue M5 werkswagen is off the chars. Just sick.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
