4 Series (F32) Officially Official: The BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe

The first generation of the BMW 4 Series consists of the F32 (coupé version), F33 (convertible version) and F36 (five-door liftback version, marketed as 'Gran Coupé') compact executive cars. Following the leak, just two days ago, the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe is now officially revealed. What we have in front of our eyes is a very sexy shaped alternative to a regular 3 series sedan, or a more practical 4 series Coupe. No matter the way you choose to encounter it, the numbers and facts speak for themselves. The 4er GC is wider, longer and shorter compared to its sedan brother and the longer and more raked roofline hides a practical rear hatch opening.

Under the hood no surprises are to be found. The top-of-the-line (for now at least - BMW hasn't ruled out an M4 GC yet) 435i is powered by the familiar N55 six-cylinder in-line 3.0-liter petrol engine delivering 225 kW/306 hp. Next up in the gasoline engine range comes the 428i and 420i with a four-cylinder 2.0-liter petrol engine with a power output of 180 kW/245 hp and 135 kW/184 hp, respectively. For the BMW enthusiasts with a guilty conscience, the 420d Gran Coupé delivers 135 kW/184 hp with an average fuel consumption varying between 4.7 to 4.9 liters per 100 kilometers, yet needs only 7.7 seconds for the first 100 km/h from standstill. Finally, the entry level model is the 418d, with a 105 kW/143 hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine and even lower fuel consumption. BMW's xDrive is available from launch, but only for the 428i and 420d. A six-speed manual transmission comes as standard, but all engines can be combined with the optional eight-speed Steptronic gearbox.

The 4 series Gran Coupe makes use of a wide variety of electronic feature, design ideas and new technologies, under the family of EfficientDynamics in order to enhance economy and efficiency. The underbody has a smooth surface thanks to special plastic panels, while Air Curtains and Air Breathers combine aerodynamic optimization with conventional fuel saving technologies, such as Brake Energy Regeneration, the Auto Start Stop function and ancillary components that are activated on-demand. On top of that, the entire range of BMW ConnectedDrive options can be found in the optional equipment list. Navigation System Professional, the full-color BMW Head-Up Display, Driving Assistant, the glare-free High Beam Assistant, Active Protection and the latest development stage of the Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function are just some examples.

The BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe will make its official debut at this years Geneva Motor Show in March and will have found its way to the dealers by the end of summer. Until then, you can enjoy our photo gallery, found after the jump.
