A side note:

The BMW 5er was the best selling car in its segment in Germany in July 2024. Units sales incl. i5 of some 3212 units topped those of the W214 E-Class + EQE sedan by some 117 units. On a year-to-date basis, the W214+EQE sedan continue to top the chart at 19109 units, exceeding those of the 5er incl. i5 by just under 6000 units. Audi A6 sales are now on a decline, trailing those of the BMW 5ers by just over 500 units on a year-to-date basis. It will be interesting to see how the A6 etrons impact the market. My guess is that it will be the upcoming ICE hybrid A7s that will give Audi sales a far more noticable boost.

You appear to be quoting numbers that originate from the KBA, they present EQE & EQE SUV together as BEV numbers for the E-Klasse.

Yes, you are correct.

Ha, I was not aware that EQE sedan and EQE SUV numbers are combined by the KBA.

The learning process never ends. Nor should it.

As the "E60 Vibe" gets stronger and stronger, the more I find myself liking the G60.

I suppose that the IMHO absolutely homely Audi A6 etron has pushed me further towards the BMW camp. I still love the W214 E-Class, but there is something very modern about the G60 5er that is beginning to gradually win me over.

While I see the connection with the E60 in the headlights, that's about where the similarities end for me. The E60 still has a traditional BMW side profile to me while the G60's body is too bloated and rises too much towards the rear.

Opposite for me. The more I digest the new 5, the more I dislike it. My appreciation for the W214 however continues to grow. Easily the best looking E since the W211. Time will tell if it's as good.

Indeed, the W/S214 E-Class cars are gorgeous. My take is that they rank very highly in terms of classic yet sportive elegance. The G60/61 5ers appear very crisp, fresh and "tech-y modern".

Saying that the RS 6 Avant is leagues ahead of the new M5 Touring visually, and willing to bet the upcoming RS 7 Avant will be as well. A6 e-Tron has nothing to do with this.

A6 e-tron has nothing to do with this?

Now it's getting awkward.....so you're saying we are not allowed to compare an i5/5er Touring to the new A6, yet you compare an old ICE car to a new BEV car.
Stop it you are embarassing yourself.

E class is not slowly dying, but very quickly.
Why this f'ing car has to be brought up non stop in the 5er thread beats me though.

E class is not slowly dying, but very quickly.
Moreover, comparisons around looks between 5er-i5 to E-Class aren't really like for like.

One has to be more holistic and make the comparison in light of the different manufacturers' strategies, hence:
BMW 5er-i5 vs (MB E-Class + MB EQE)
One manufacturer took the route of combining the ICE & EV into one platform, the other chose to separate them.

I think it's fair to say that the E-Class has some very attractive proportions and is superior to the 5er looks-wise.
By the same token, if we're to compare EQE vs i5 then it swings the other way as the EQE isn't at all attractive to my eyes.

Like I mentioned prior, I'm comparing the RS 6 Avant with the M5 Touring. Not the A6 Avant, not the 5er/i5 Touring, purely the performance models that get sold stateside, in context of the M5 Touring being revealed. Not sure why this is confusing for you....

From where I'm coming (Hungary and Romania), the new E-Class starts to take over the new 5er/i5. I can see more and more E-class.

Anecdotal, but BMW Australia managed to launch the 5 about 10 months before the E class became available here. I have in two months of sales seen as many new E classes on the road as I have in 10 months of the BMW being available. But the E class has always outsold the 5 series 3 to 1 since with the introduction of the G30 and W213.

I believe both will do better than their predecessors here. They are both top tier mid luxury vehicles. One just looks unfortunate in my eyes. lol But I see more G60s than G30s, and I actually enjoy looking at it interesting details on its tragic proportions more than I ever did looking at the G30.

Not so sure anymore.. seen a few W214s around and they don’t captivate me like the G60s do…

I’m having a Deja vu moment from 20 years ago when the E65/66 absolutely trumped the W/V220 in terms of sheer presence.

You're comparing apples to oranges.

An old ICE only car vs a new BEV-ready one. Not sure why you can't grasp this.

Anecdotal

Here too, anecdotal. The E class is dead. I hardly ever see one.

What’s your garage like now Klier? Have you fully embraced EVs yet?

I'm doing the same visual comparison prospective M5T buyers would be doing, as seen on Bimmerpost where some buyers are into the looks and other are stating they're going to go for the RS 6 after seeing the M5T.

If you think M5T buyers aren't going to be cross-shopping the RS 6 Avant, you're out of touch.

Hell, even BMWblog is posting this comparison. This is not an apples to orange comparison, the RS 6 has been out since 2020 and got an update for 2024. Doesn't matter if the M5 has a BEV-ready compromise platform, they are both direct competitors to each other.

5 long wheelbase is an interesting car. It's pretty large at 5175mm which is the same as a SWB W223 S class.
