BTW, I forgot the Comfort seat, that came with the V8 models. They are basically the same seats as with high-end E38 models. They are those with the fancy head-rest. Utterly comfortable, but no side support. Also, they only came as electric, thus you seat considerably higher than in manually adjustable seats.
These are the comfort seats I sat on in 1996 that were very comfortable, they were similar to the E38 7-series models at the time.

Yikes! The wood (looks like Walnut/Maplewood) didn't age well. Any form of Aluminium trim has always been the best choice for the E39. Now more so than ever.

BTW, navigation in combination with the bare bones climate system is not something one often sees in an E39.

Thats not comfort seats but the sport seats.

The E39 had 4 seat versions and the E38 had 4 seat versions.

E39: Standard seat, sport seat, comfort seat and M5 seat
E38: Standard seat, sport seat, comfort seat and contour seat.

I adored the design language and quality of the E39 and E46 dashboards. Those swooping lines, the gorgeous instrument binnacle and canted centre console. The best in its day.

No doubt. The wood however (more specifically, THAT wood) looks absolutely horrible though. Like it's trying to be a Jaguar from the '60s.

And @SaltkjelenBMW, you deserve a tag below your name: Seating expert no 1

Thanks for pointing that out as I couldn't find a proper pic of the comfort seats. You certainly are the seat expert for BMW models!!

American fat asses ought to have their own XXL seats sure, but in reality....... What the hell is seat comfort? LMAO, you act as if there's different seats for different markets.
And no kidding individual experiences differ. You have less space in your seat if you're carrying 75 kg of extra fat ;) Surely that will affect comfort just a wee bit.

The G60 5er looks great in this particular spec.

Ahhh… Seeing these kind of posts makes me sad. I grew up inside an E39. It was simply amazing back in the day. I remember my dad used to go to the garage just to look at it from time to time.

A pitty how the Germans have allowed its prestige to diminish with all this cost cutting. BMW interiors used to have no rival to me back in the day. Now they are just plastic, fake (vegan) leather with a huge tactile screen.

I don’t know your dad, but I like him 🙂

I went to the garage just to sit in it, when dad came home from work. Was particularly impressive at night with the cabin lights on and the waterfall light in full force.
Yeah absolutely magical. I have a few favorites but the E39 is my defining moment too. Truly the best car ever made.

My family owned a 528i E39 sedan, and after that a facelift 530d Touring (and before that an E34 525i). And after that an E46 330 Ci cabriolet and 318i Touring. Glorious times. All desirable cars worth maybe more than what you paid for them, particularly now in hindsight.....This whole era was magical for BMW. If they can catch a sliver of that in the future they'll be ok.
