The BMW X1 is a line of cars produced by BMW since 2009. A subcompact luxury crossover class, the first-generation X1 was based on the E90 3 Series and offered rear-wheel drive layout as standard. The second-generation X1 marked the switch to a front-wheel-drive-based layout using the UKL2 platform shared with the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the Mini Countryman. Despite its name, it is now only the second smallest SUV produced by BMW since the introduction of the X2.

Looked at a new X1 vs 1 year-old X3 20d as the replacement for my wife's car. Same money. X3 just ticked so many more boxes even though it'll soon get an all-new model.
Two biggest issues were engine outputs (X1 only comes in 18d) and transmission: X1 has DCT and X3 has ZF8HP.
Make no mistake, X1 is one seriously attractive vehicle and it's going to sell very well. Best in its class IMO.

But I get your point, there is a fine line between girly, young and SUV.
Is that not nearly always the case though? The new car will rarely represent better value for money than the nearly new car?

As a premium car the X3 is one of the most complete cars. It may not be the most exciting one but it does everything you expecting it to very well.
