Of course AWD is better than RWD in winter. But it amazes me that you guys in UK doesn't need wintertyres. Here in Sweden its a law to use it.
The difference between summer and winter tyres are gigantic. Like I told Footie, people in UK are nuts ;)
That and if you are ready to pay for a M5 you would think that winter tyres would be quite a small investment. Ofc the winter in UK isn't so long but..

I would have expected a better comeback than this. :)

It wasn't a comeback, it was a statement of fact, you are refuting arguments that nobody has made.

I won't be drawn into a personal confrontation by comments like the one above, I am here to discuss the M5. So if you want to continue along that tack, I will ignore you, which will be a shame because I find most of your posts quite interesting.

I'm sorry if that was your impression. I guess we just disagree on the matter and will rest my case.

Best regards,

Very promising to hear all that....but I don't get the point of drifting the car in the snow...? Are they trying to show it is more engaging and tail-happy than the E60 M5..and more like the E39?

Most of it is just marketing and building hype crap but the the one interesting tidbit is demo for the new DSC which in the M mode requires the driver to also steer into a skid to avoid a spin - something most people do intuitively but with normal stability control systems results in the overcorrection and infamous "tank slap".

AWD and RWD technology each have their advantages/disadvantages. If I do decide to buy the F10 M5, I would expect a lot of flickering from the traction control light:t-drive:. But I would also expect a great RWD driving experience. I will need to test drive the F10 M5 to know whether I can live with it.
You might be able to pick from each.

Going to be sick!!!!! Now bring on the M6.

I was really hating on the front bumper when the car was released. That silver metallic color, though, is making me fall in love with the damn car.

lol Andreas, fine, if you pass this test I will buy an M5 in black.
Mid August, Black car, black leather, 55+ C temp outside, no A/C and windows closed :D

Test duration is 8 hours :D

BTW my first brand new car was black, and I regretted everyday that I made that decision. Worst color for middle east ever. Although it looks best on cars.

One of the South-Africans residing in the UAE told me on my visit that he was parked in the parking area outside a Carrefour store and let his Denali Yukon idle with the aircon on (as everybody do in the UAE summer;)) he met up with friends in the Mall and forgot about the idling parked car. When he eventually got back to the car the FULL fuel tank ran empty!

....with low gas prices from ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Corp) it's all too possible:D

New rumours:
V8, 589hp/775 nm. Weight reduction approximately 60 kg compare to 550i.

I love the sound..very un M like..Non mechanical and DEEP..just the way a V8 should sound:) me like!!!

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
