Velar [Official] Range Rover Velar

The Land Rover Range Rover Velar, generally known as the Range Rover Velar, is a crossover SUV produced by Jaguar Land Rover under their Land Rover marque. The fourth model in the Range Rover line, the Velar was unveiled on 1 March 2017 in London, England. The name Velar had previously been used for a series of pre-production first-generation Range Rovers in 1969.
Also, is it obviously visually larger than the Q5, X3 and GLC or does it hide it's visual bulk well?

There were two parked outside a hotel in my town a few weeks ago, they don't look bulky, they really don't look much larger than the competitors.

There's a big JLR event in my town next week, they are shipping in 300 cars and 350 journalists, it will be interesting to see what new stuff the have for the journos to drive.

Oh yes all Range Rover models are going to move up market with their next redo. The Velar basically will take over the RR Sport as the next RR Sport moves up to where the Range Rover is now and the next Range Rover moves closer to Bentley territory. They did the same thing years ago with the first generation Sport and the Range Rover of the day.

In these two pictures, one can see how much difference the wheels make to this car really....The one above just looks like an Evoque on steroids whereas the one below has tons of character

Wow. Those reviews are not glowing. All the hype about it being dynamic arent reflected by the handling. This car's trumph card is clearly style and nothing else at a substancially high price.

The Macan and X3 will be the better choice if you want a car to attack corners with. I suspect some who preordered will be dissapointed.

Those reviews aren't negative either, it's a Range Rover it's not supposed to be a sports car, besides you don't buy an SUV to attack corners, that's why you buy a sports car and why vehicles like the X3 aren't all that nice to live with on a daily basis they're just to uncomfortable, especially when you option Msport, AMG or S line kits.

I've driven all the roads in the reviews, the testing was done near where I live, the scenery is awesome.

Yes its a Range Rover in all its glory. After all, the Range Rover Sport is all but sporty despite the name.

I am just surprised that no aspect, except the exterior of the car, has impressed the journalists.

You really didn't take in much from the videos, they all liked the interior as well as the exterior, but mentioned some cheap bits and bobs, which you will find in the German opposition as well, they liked the ride and comfort, and they said it would sell.

If I'm buying a car like the Velar, then ride and comfort are much higher priorities than outright cornering ability.

Off course. It would be foolish to expect it to handle like a Lotus Exige. All I am saying is that there was alot of hype about it being the most dynamic and road biased Range Rover ever but judging by the reviews it doesnt seem much of a deviate from its siblings.

No one is going to be disappointed if they have order the Velar. Honestly most are not concerned about dynamic ability more like how much attention it will gather and look at my status. It's a lifestyle choice.
Will we see the Beckhams in it? Maybe not as the Design director of Land Rover went postal on their "ability to design cars"

Why has this guy all of a sudden turned into a complete @sswipe? No one really asked for his opinion on the matter anyway?

I wonder if the SVR will be a different story.

If the SVR has a V8, it will be the hottest thing on the market.

M

Kind of hoping for a new V8, but won't happen. I love the 5.0L V8 in my RR, but just like BMW and their 4.4L, they're flogging it to death. It's been around in 5.0L spec since late 2008 and the AJ V8 architecture has been around since 1996(!).

The engine works well in large/heavy JLRs, but for mid-size to smaller models like the F-Type, XF-R, and even the RRS SVR you feel the weight of the engine and understeer around corners. An observation from driving experiences.

I'm not really a fan of SUVs but I think this looks considerably better than any of the SUVs currently available from BMW, Mercedes and Audi. It is going to sell like hot cakes.
