Evoque [Official] New Range Rover Evoque

The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, also known as the Range Rover Evoque or the Land Rover Evoque, is a subcompact luxury crossover SUV developed and produced by Jaguar Land Rover. The first generation Evoque was produced from July 2011 until 2018 in three and five-door versions, with both two-wheel and four-wheel drive. The second generation of the car went into production in 2018.
The previous Evoque just looks very good but is far from a refined and pleasant car to drive. The engine is noisy and slow, the suspension has no damping and the acceleration lag almost killed me once, I'm serious.

The new one is hot, more cool and premium looking than direct competitors.

The entry level petrol Evoque does 0-62mph in 8.0 compared with 7.7 for the X1 20i and thanks to the electric motor refinement should be very very good. I have driven the that same new engine without an electric motor and it’s good - very pleasantly so.

Land Rover have improved the tech in the car too so there are no glaring reasons not to buy this car.

Is it overpriced? Nope. The X2, E-pace and cars like the XC60, X3 and GLC cost as much. The latter three do have a bit more boot space but the Evoque is practical enough for 95% of journeys. My X3 has a 500 litre boot but since my daughter started walking we use a smaller buggy/pram that fits in the majority of cars.

This is why I think clumsy gear levers should be abolished in the majority of cars. It's visibly obstructing interaction with the HVAC control or the top infotainment screen.

I'm aware there is a manual entry level model but this is wasted real estate and two steps backwards from the rotary knob.

Is there any German SUV other than the G which can match a Land Rover or Range Rover in off-road ability?

You do know an SUV has to be more than just about off road capability right. In fact in this day and age its more about practicality, comfort, style, safety and quality. The little Velar still has to prove itself in all of those departments.

I love the red one. :eye8:
Nevertheless, it's a pity that the roof is only available in black, white or color body,...

While the competitors are premium cars that are inferior to the bigger siblings, the Evoque enjoys the same luxury options as the Range Rover Sport.

This second generation is a huge leap from the first gen Evoque and has the below. I can't think of similar priced small SUV that has all of the following:
  • Mild hybrid drive trains
  • Touch Screen
  • Activity key
  • Apple Car Play
  • Ground View Camera
  • Digital Rear view Camera
  • Cabin Air Ionisation
  • Advanced tow assist
  • Auxiliary heating and cooling
  • 6 USB ports and two 12 volt sockets
  • Apple Watch and smartphone app for locking, unlocking car
  • Extensive choices of upholstery materials e'g wool, leather, eucalyptus
  • Leather across the dash, centre of steering wheel and top rolls on the doors
  • Emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors and lane keeping assist are standard

All your points are spot on. My point is that we still need to compare it to its rivals in rel world tests before we can make such bold claims as stated a few posts back.

Let's not forget also that all these major advancements are going to literally come at a higher cost and that might be the edge that the its rivals will have over it.

Are these the reasons you buy a car nowadays?

I agree that the predecessor was technically inferior in many ways but this second generation is competitive and desirable.

The X2 is as pricey but has a firm ride, and ancient interior that can't be specced with materials of the more expensive BMW SUVs.
Mercedes GLA looks like a jacked up hatchback. While the GLC is attractive it's won't complement your swagger.
Audi Q3 does look cool and quirky though!
What about the Jaguar E-Pace? It's a good looking car but the very spec sensitive and will likely live in the shadow of the Evoque.

Well a decently optioned Evoque will tip toe with the new X3 and GLC and there's no way i'd be paying that much for the Evoque while i get get a nicely M pack X3 or even better wait for the gorgeous FL GLC next year.

Aren't the X3 and the GLC a class above

Both the X3 and GLC are slightly larger but in terms of luxury features and touches the Evoque is now above.

The Q7, X5 and GLE is larger than the Macan yet customers are spending equally as much or even more than money on the smaller Porsche. While Macan and even Evoque customers are happy to spend 20% extra on options and nappa leather, even the standard spec Evoque is as well as equipped as the Germans.

In all honesty this segment has never been this good. Which one you choose now depends on taste, budget and priorities. The XC60, X3, Evoque, Macan, Q5, GLC and even XC40 are highly desirable. Not s single one is below standards.

At this price the feel good factor, emotional value of materials and aesthetic have huge influence on people’s willingness to spend money on a car that’s, if you keep it real, isn’t more able to take you from A to B than a considerably cheaper car.

As you go up the price ladder it’s heart over head.

The MINI and the Octavia are also priced very similarly but this doesn't make them cars of the same class

This new model builds on the design strengths and desirability of the previous model by adding in more upmarket touches from the Velar and making it appear like a more expensive car than most its rivals, The new interior has a very nice blend of luxury and tech. I like it alot.
