Velar [Official] Range Rover Velar

The Land Rover Range Rover Velar, generally known as the Range Rover Velar, is a crossover SUV produced by Jaguar Land Rover under their Land Rover marque. The fourth model in the Range Rover line, the Velar was unveiled on 1 March 2017 in London, England. The name Velar had previously been used for a series of pre-production first-generation Range Rovers in 1969.

at 6' you can see the door handle's test :)
The handles are crap...bad implementation of a cool idea.

Also word at the sales center is that the Velar has been a flop so far. Anyone have EU, US, And world statistics?

I've always disliked pop-out doorhandles, particularly the one's on my wife's Model S, but it seems LR conducted industrial-grade R&D with the Velar's doorhandles rather than just using the system from the F-Type.

It's been well received in the Northeast, which is a given since it's Land Rover's largest market. I'm predicting it'll be particularly popular with women, a lot of whom will be upgrading from Evoques.

Rear seat room is even worse than the F-pace, which I didn't think was possible for a fairly long "mid-sized" SUV.

I wonder if their fail safe release can be triggered by tricking the wade sensor into thinking that the car is submerged in water.

This can be done by tying plastic bags around the wing mirrors and filling the bags with water.

Hint hint :D

I saw the car in the metal today. Dealers have started putting it on showroom floors this week and test drives will be allowed from the 17th July. Therefore we can expect reviews being published next week.

Photos won't prepare you for unbelievably hot the Velar is. It's the Adriana Lima or Margot Robbie of SUVs. An utter bomb shell!

Compared with the RR Sport it's sleeker, has a more exaggerated rear overhang and ushers the brand into the next design revolution. The stunning proportions aren't conveyed well in the photos.

You might be sick and tired of the seeing it in grey but the dealer also had a red one parked outside which was hot too but the grey works amazingly well.

Hot looks? Check
Big boot? Check
Spacious backseat? Check

I'm 180cm and have plenty of head room to spare in the back. Besides pricing there are no drawbacks. The Q5, X3 and other SUVs don't stand a chance in looks department. It's pricey but not more than an X5, Q7 or GLE. It will also be in reach for X3 and GLC customers with deep pockets.

So many fingerprints.

Did you play with the dual touchscreen? How responisve was it?

Except for the Volvo XC90, it has its segment dominated looks wise. Germans are too busy, overly agressive and with ridiculously complicated lights.

The XC90 is fantastic design and looks regardless of trim, color or alloys. The Germans are heavily focused on character lines, grills and bumpers. On both the XC90 and Velar, it's the clean form, minimal number of character lines and absence of hard edged design features that makes them good looking.

I wonder whether the Velar will make Mercedes and BMW rethink the "coupe" variants of their SUVs. The Velar demonstrates that sleek and athletic proportions can be achieved without sloping roofs which kill rear headroom and boot space.

Yes I did. They are responsive and the UI is fluid. However I didn't use the screens long enough to be in a position to pass judgement.

Audi and BMW are heavily focused on character lines. :p

If you get a chance, keen to hear about your take on the operating interface Luw and how it compares to the Germans.

Also, is it obviously visually larger than the Q5, X3 and GLC or does it hide it's visual bulk well?

Doubt it. The two-model system they have now allows for a stylish version and predominantly practical version to be on sale side by side vs. trying to achieve both at once in slightly compromised design. I think the Germans know which one brings in higher volume altogether.

I actually got to sit in a Velar today and I would not call the rear spacious.

When it was launched I was wondering how the Range Rover Sport would fit in with the Velar?
However when viewing the Velar in Geneva in March I now understand how it can fit in between the Evoque and the Sport as a niche within a niche.

The combination of 20cm/7.8inch shorter height than the RR sport, and 20cm longer body than an X3/Q5/GLC gives it a very sleek profile. Further more, the rounded corners makes it look lush.

The dealer insisted I test drive the car from next week and will find a slot in my diary to do the deed before the end of July.

What I meant by spacious is that an tall adult can rest their head without touching the headliner which is not the case in the X6/GLE Coupe or X4/GLC Coupe.

The X5, XC90 and Q7 definitely feel roomier - especially for carrying 3 in the back which is strange given that the Velar is very wide.

The Velar looks like a RR Sport replacement and with like for like engine and equipment there isn't much between them in price. Further more, the Velar has a much lower centre of gravity which puts its in a better position to be agile compared against the top heavy RR "Sport".

I'm banking on a positioning change for the RR Sport in its next generation.
