A little surprised, but then again, not...
Don't think I could pick a GT4 over a 911R.
Yes, me too, if "pick" means - which one would you rather own? I would be very surprised if most didn't go for the 911R. It obviously has more "specialness" going for it.
But, a friend who owns many GT cars put it best (he said it in the context of his RS vs GT4) - if you already own both and enjoy them both regularly enough, a year into the ownership when the novelty has worn off, which keys would you rather reach for, for a spirited drive across some mountain roads?
In that scenario, specialness of one over the other is kind of moot and "picking" one over the other has no consequence besides the size of the smile on one's face. And in that situation, his choice was the 4 (over his RS). While the R is a different proposition to the RS, I wouldn't be surprised if at least a few "pick" the GT4.
