GT-R [Official] Nissan GT-R NISMO 2014

The Nissan GT-R (Gran Turismo–Racing; model code: R35) is a series of cars built by Nissan from 2007 to 2025. It has a 2+2 seating layout and is considered both a sports car and a grand tourer. The engine is front-mid mounted and drives all four wheels. It succeeds the Nissan Skyline GT-R, a high-performance variant of the Nissan Skyline. The car is built on the PM platform, derived from the FM platform used in the Skyline and Nissan Z models. Production is conducted in a shared production line at Nissan's Tochigi plant in Japan.

They have clearly fine tuned the car and perfected the ride. It's still a ridiculous priced car. However few super cars are as easy for a novice enthusiast to drive very very fast on most road conditions.

Last year USA got the new track edition with the Nismo’s engine with 600 ps. Has this been launched in Europe also?

Last year USA got the new track edition with the Nism...

Top model here in the UK is the NISMO with 600ps, spec is listed as Track Edition plus engine, exterior and interior upgrades... so it reads as though it's a NISMO version of the track edition, not a track edition of the NISMO.

Ok, in USA I see that the top model is also the Nismo version at 212 000 $. The base GT-R costs 115 000 $. Then there is this new Track Edition for 2020 model year which uses the 600ps Nismo engine and other Nismo parts, the price is 147 000 $. When I look at the european Nissan home pages it seems their track version still use the normal 570ps engine.

It's crazy this car is still being sold. Who is buying it? 12 year old design, heavy, with terrible ride and outdated interior. The lure of the GT-R was that it offered supercar performance for half to quarter the price. It of course lacked all the other things that people pay extra for, like style and prestige and exclusivity, but at least it got the performance, and in a usable and somewhat reliable package too. But, 12 years later, and 6 years since the Nismo came out, it's now hopelessly outmatched in every category, be it track performance or straight line performance, or comfort, equipment, you name it. And it's gotten way more expensive too! When is the new model coming out? They for sure are milking this one for all they can...

The base version is still somewhat sensibly priced, the NISMO is silly money, but it's still outsold the track edition here in the UK! (Just! 35 units to 31 units). But yeah, it's old, and they're probably only selling in low double digits in most countries.

The GT-R really had a big impact on the sport car market when it was launched in 2007. It forced Porsche to improve their 911 Turbo. Now it is an old hero that shold be put to a very deserved retirement.

Yeah, and improve it they did. The new Turbo S, which just saw the first wave of reviews, does 0-200 km/h in 8.3s while the Nismo does it in 10.2s. 1.9s difference, which is actually slightly longer than a week. And then the interior and infotainment system is from another planet basically and it offers much more comfortable ride, better handling thanks to recent advancements like rear wheel steering, and everything else is better too.

This is not me hating on the GT-R. When it was released, it did have a big impact. And it was a very well engineered car. In 2007. What has happened is like when an aging champion athlete can't seem to give up the sport despite his decreasing performance, and his impressive achievements are then marred by embarrassing failures at the end of his career.

Funny

Funny how they used to bash the GT-R for being heavy, yet none of that criticism seems to have filtered over to the many other marques who have, in some instances, eclipsed the weight of the GT-R.

The GT-R was a very heavy sportscar in 2007. It had a real weight of 150-200 kg more than the 997 Turbo. Both cars had 480 ps, but the GT-R accelerated as fast as the Porsche and was significally faster around basically all tracks. There where speculations that the GT-R had more than 480 ps, but measurements showed it didn’t. It just had a more effective drivetrain (and slighty more grippier tyres). In 2009 Porsche responded with the 997.2 Turbo which was much faster although just had 20 ps more.

In any case, it's nigh on 20 years since the first concept for the R35... the model itself is a teenager now, and there's no signs of a replacement yet... does make me wonder what Nissan is going to do with the GT-R Legacy now.
