Passat CC Official: New Passat CC 4-door Coupe

I already like it a lot more than yesterday. :usa7uh: I'm only unsure about the rear lights. In some pictures they look OK, but in others somewhat out of proportion. :eusa_thin The front overhang could be shorter too. All in all I still like it.

But serious what does CC stand for. I couldn't find anything scanning the press release quickly with my eyes yesterday.

my guess is, that they don't know it either
but a serious guess would be crossover coupe :eusa_thin

After seeing all the IRL pictures and new pictures, my impression of this car has improved hugely. When I first saw the official pictures, which didn't really show the car from very many different angles, I didn't like the car at all. It is growing on me though.

I'm not sure who will buy this car, in the UK at least, can't comment on other markets as I don't live there. The way I see it, in the UK people buy the Passat if they want a good car, for traveling large distances and generally getting them from A to B. I can comment on this as we have a Passat Estate, and it does a very good job of this, very refined. The price makes BMWs and Mercs look expensive and people buy them either if they don't care about the image, or don't want the image you get from driving a BMW or Merc, or if they don't have enough money to afford a more expensive car. The Passat CC I assume is going to be a little bit more expensive than the standard Passat, pushing it up to 3er pricing. Sure it's a larger car, but most people I think will wish to have the BMW or Merc for the same money, because of the brand kudos and style you get from buying a premium car. We already know people don't buy expensive cars from cheaper brands. Look at cars like the Citroen C6 or even VWs very own Pheaton, and if they didn't sell, I don't see how this car is going to be any different. I can't say it's styling makes me want to buy it now.

For the people saying the interior is great, I'm not sure why, it's basically just standard Passat but they have redesigned the climate controls, that is all. To be honest I'm not too impressed by the Passat interior, way too much plastic, comparing it to an Audi interior is like comparing night and day!

Aside from the oversized rear lights and front overhang, this is looking really good. But then the regular Passat was already very good looking IMO.

Here's how the two look, when images are superimposed. Noticeable differences, but the standard Passat was already very coupelike.

As for who would be in the market for this. It will be a person (or young family) who likes the sensibility of the Passat, but doesn't want the relative ubiquity of the Passat. Something stylish that's more unique, but doesn't scream "Hey, look at me. I'm made of money!" In some areas in the US and perhaps elsewhere, there is a flip side to prestige badges like MB and BMW; a very unflattering one.
Not sure about the "lifestyle" strategy, as it relates to the prestige. But it does fit in with VW's efforts to portray a sporting image.

I think VW could have swung a little bit harder with this one, given the extreme similarities between this and the regular Passat.

Overall, it's a very handsome and unified looking car. The angle I dislike the most is directly from the rear. Interior looks very good (love that steering wheel).

Yeah, more like for someone who wants to give the impression that they are made of money, similar to Chrysler 300c owners who drive their cars proudly as if they are making 250k a year. Phony ass wankers. I'd be much happier in a used Phaeton thank you!

Look at the fronts. Pretty similar. Or is it just me? :)

Re: Official: New Passat Coupe

The name CC is misleading - especially to the British public it would suggest Coupe Cabriolet. Secondly, doesn't it just look how the standard Passat should look? It makes the standard model look quite ordinary but isn't that different to warrant the price increase IMO.

I'd take a Phaeton over the 300C too. But I don't think the Passat CC demographic is quite the same as the 300C demographic. This is a much more low-key and elegant car than the in-your-face, brash, "baller" 300C. The 300C has broad appeal thanks to its looks (indeed bought by even those who actually do make millions a year), but I think the overlap with CC potential customers is pretty small.
