This is What a 2016 VW Passat R Could Look Like

VW could create a real giant killer if it were to make a spruced up version of its all-new Passat.

Giving it 400 horses under the bonnet, rear wheel drive and sharper handling could see it face off against established hot saloons (and estates) - would be all the more convincing reason for Ford to consider making a Mondeo ST and Opel/Vauxhal to up the power of the Insignia OPC/VXR.
X-Tomi with big rims and lower, more aggressive bumpers and skirts, as well as a light green line that runs across the grille, it doesn’t blow us away with its presence.

It’s obviously not helped in that respect by the new Passat’s somewhat bland appearance, though if its performance and road manners made it a great drive, this could easily be overlooked.

We’ll have to see which other models will be chosen by VW to receive the full R treatment, something which we know is being considered.

The new Passat is again offered in saloon and estate versions with a multitude of innovations. Thanks to cutting-edge design methods its proportions were made significantly more dynamic (including lower body, longer wheelbase and larger wheels).

Advance sales for the new Passat begin on Thursday, 10 July. Prices start from €25,875 (saloon) and €26,950 (estate).

We used to have a 1976 Passat B1 saloon 1.6 manual, which my Dad bought in 1987. It looked virtually the same as the Audi 80 of the time. What I can remember was only positive things about this car. It was easy to drive, good performance but mostly it was spacious inside and had a massive boot. Those last 2 qualities of spacious interior and massive boot are even more present in todays Passat.

This is the similar type to what we had but ours was white and had twin front lights.

The B1 Audi 80/VW Passat were indeed mechanically and technologically excellent automobiles. Very space efficient, light and nimble with the impressive EA827 il4 engines under their hoods. Were it not for the chronic rust problems.

I also once owned a 1975 (B1) Audi 80 sedan with the 1.5L, 70HP 4-banger. It was amazingly quick for its' rather meager HP output and I could give those "cool" BMW 1602s' and Alfa-Romeo Giulia 1300s' a run for their money. Alas, it appeared to sprout new rust whenever my eyes watered.

VW confirms new Passat Alltrack for next year

A jacked-up version of VW's new Passat B8 with the usual crossover styling references and the Alltrack designation will join the saloon and estate models next year.
The new VW Passat Alltrack will go on sale in the UK in July 2015, which likely places its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show in March of the same year.
Like the outgoing model as well as the smaller and less expensive (Jetta) Golf Alltrack that's schedule for a world premiere in Paris this week, the new Passat Alltrack will be based on the station wagon version of the series.
Along with a taller suspension (raised by around 20 to 30mm) for greater road clearance in the… rare chance users take it off the road, the Alltrack Passat will get VW's 4Motion all-wheel drive system with an electronic front differential lock and a series of SUV-inspired styling elements such as the protection plates on both ends.
The engine range will mirror that of the regular Passat models.

Volkswagen confirms new Passat getting CC and Alltrack derivatives
Arriving in 2-3 years
Volkswagen has announced CC and Alltrack versions of the all-new Passat are currently in the works.

The Passat B8 is currently available in sedan and wagon body styles but in the next few years these will be joined by a sleeker CC and a rugged Alltrack. The announcement was made by the company's chief designer Klaus Bischoff in a Volkswagen employee newsletter but an exact launch date was not specified.

According to Car & Driver, the current CC will remain in production for approximately two years so its successor will likely come in the second half of 2016 and will be commercialized in United States. The Alltrack won't make it stateside and will once again be a high-riding Passat Variant with plastic body cladding and an all-wheel drive system, perfect for those who are not too fond of crossovers & SUVs.

We remind you that Volkswagen has dropped a few hints about a range-topping Passat R as a successor for the previous generation's R36 variant. It will come with a 4MOTION all-wheel drive system and possibly with a six-cylinder engine although a final decision has not been taken yet.

In case this has been posted before, I ask the moderators to just delete the post :) Thanks.

I just find the story too funny to be true. The second B8 has been stolen from the company site. The first has already been found again, the second is still missing. Now, the police in Emden published this radar trap picture of the delinquent in the second case.

I know him! He works for AUDI on the new A4.;)

I don't like the sedan, but the wagon looks very nice. Besides, the cargo capacity is impressive.
On the other hand, the interior is fabulous, I found it more "german looking" than some interiors from a premium german maker ;)

AutoBild is reporting that at about 700 bodys of the new Passat the welding spots were at the wrong points with the result all this bodys are for scrap. :(

2015 Volkswagen Passat Euro-Spec
An Audi, by VW.

When Volkswagen decided it needed to drastically increase sales in the U.S. market, a different Passat was born. Engineered for and built in America, that Passat arrived for the 2012 model year larger than ever before and at a drastically reduced price—but also on a less sophisticated architecture and with fewer available luxury and tech options. At the same time, Europe kept updating its more compact sister model with fresher tech.

And now the divide is widening. While the U.S. Passat, based on the aging PQ46 platform, is getting ready for an extensive face lift next year, the Euro modelhas been completely redone atop the VW Group's impressive MQB modular vehicle architecture.

Visually, the new model is strictly evolutionary. Designed under the guidance of Marc Lichte, who has since been tapped to head Audi design, the new Passat’s exterior is characterized by horizontal lines and as a result looks sleek and low. In what is perhaps an industry first, the Passat is actually available with two differently shaped headlight units. Its optional LED headlamps are smaller than the standard halogens, and the look is markedly different. VW didn't go as far as changing the sheetmetal surrounding the lights, but the LEDs have a far more prominent chrome strip up top that then carries over into the grille. At the rear, the fanciest LED taillights—there is a lower-spec set, also lit by LED—change their graphics from horizontal to vertical when the brakes are applied.

SO MANY ENGINES
The Passat is offered with a range of 10 engines in Germany, but we experienced only the 150-hp 1.4-liter TSI gasoline four-cylinder and the burly 240-hp 2.0-liter TDI during our drive. (This story’s accompanying specifications panel is limited to these engines.) Both turbocharged engines are satisfying in their own way. Mated to a slick-shifting manual transmission, the EA211 1.4-liter gasoline engine is surprisingly quick and responsive. It features cylinder deactivation that darkens two holes to reduce fuel consumption (for a deep dive on this incredibly interesting engine, head here), and both this function and the 1.4’s overall soundtrack are very discreet. It provides enough grunt that it doesn’t quite lose any steam until well above 90 mph on its way to a top speed of 137 mph.

The 240-hp four-cylinder twin-turbocharged diesel is simply astounding. Blessed with a whopping 369 lb-ft of torque, it relentlessly pulls the Passat into triple-digit speeds. Despite it being both a four-cylinder and using compression ignition, the NVH characteristics are never harsh or intrusive. We suspect most customers won't miss the two additional cylinders available in the Euro-market Audi A4 diesel range. Especially since this Passat is rather efficient: We reckon it could achieve well into the mid-40-mpg range on the U.S. EPA highway-mileage test, and we wouldn’t be shocked if it could exceed that figure in real-world driving. We estimate zero to 60 mph as taking 6.2 seconds, while top speed sits at 149 mph. The seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission shifts rapidly, but it sometimes lacks the finesse and smooth takeoff of a torque-converter automatic. When its software fails to accurately predict the driver's next move, shifts can be slightly jarring.

The Passat is surprisingly agile, particularly with the gasoline engine, and it doesn’t hurt that the big sedan weighs a mere 2900 pounds or so. The diesel model we drove is considerably heavier at nearly 3700 pounds; blame the drivetrain and the myriad standard upgrades on the uplevel car. Both test cars we drove were fitted with the adaptive chassis, which offers three settings. Sport mode preps the Passat for back-road flogging, while the car can do a reasonable approximation of a traditional luxobarge in Comfort mode. There’s also a middle setting that balances the two.

The interior has gone decidedly upscale, with improved materials that include real stitching everywhere, even on the armrests. Every button and knob moves with precision and provides perfect tactile feedback. Even the standard instruments look classy and expensive, but the Passat also offers a large TFT display similar to the one fitted in the new Audi TT. Here, VW has stolen Audi’s thunder, as it will take another year before this technology migrates into the delayed next-gen Audi A4. The cabin is roomy, too, but Europeans can order the attractive wagon variant if they need even more space. Indeed, there are few indications that the new Passat isn’t a premium-brand car. We’re thinking there will be plenty of Continental shoppers asking themselves, “With a VW like this, who needs an Audi?”

While we will continue to get our Chattanooga-assembled Passat for a while, we should get at least one variation of the MQB car, as it has been confirmed to spawn a new version of the CC. We’re definitely looking forward to it.

Yeah Giannis, she is a looker for sure! I also kinda like this Alltrack, even better than the normal Passat Estate

I think that front grill is too big and has a sort of 'smiling' appearance from front-on.
Not sure the headlight integration works either....looks sort of clumsy to me anyway.

Front of the car sort of spoils the overall appearance. Side and rear views are nice enough though.
In Highline trim it should be a nice car, but I think the new Audi A4 will rain on the Passat's parade somewhat.
