Passat Official: 2012 Volkswagen Passat (NMS)

I predict it will be a hit for VW. If priced right it should succeed. I'm curious as to why they left the famous 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder off the menu? Cost? It would have been a great base engine instead of the 5-cylinder from the Jetta. Thats the only real mistake I see for the intended market.

The intend market for this is Camry and Accord buyers i.e 40-80 year olds with an appetite for an interstate cruiser with a luxury fair. It would be a waste to gift them the excellent 2.0L turbo engine when it's tudies will be propelling the car to the local Walmart and Sunday flower fairs. Pricing is said to fall around the $20k mark which is good.

It would have looked alright if it came out in 2000.

OMG...Man I was thinking the same EXACT thing..

It's rivals are dead generic too -- the Camry that is.

Well a regular camry is basic now, but when it first came out it was not as generic as this. After seeing the Mazda 6, Nissan Altima, Sonata and even the Accord this just seems basic.

But the side profile does look decent though.

I'm telling you, just like with the Jetta it will quietly grow on you. I've seen a few Jetta sports now and they're really good looking. The right wheels and some type of sport treatment and this car will easily be on the of the better looking cars in the segment. Only the Sonata really stands out as a looker. Camry SE, Fusion Sport and Altima SE aren't bad either, but Accord is ugly. 626 is good looking too, forgot about that one.

Lol..You and this beef with Honda.

Actually I think the accord looks rather good and will of course be strong competition for the Passat. I guess once I see it in person I will get a better idea of how it compares with the rest.

Of I forgot you're a Honda guy. Sorry...lol.

I can't stand the sight of any of their products at this point, either Honda or Acura. The only interesting Acura is the ZDX. Oh and the Civic Si 2-door is ok. Other than that Honda/Acura have IMO pretty much the ugliest cars going.

Actually I remember reading a article not too long ago about how Acura sales are being hurt by their styling. I have to find it. Their styling isn't for everyone. I still drive my Ridgeline with a smile on my face though. ;)

I still have a feeling the Passat may have to worry about the Accord when the new model hits...Which should be soon.

Yeah that was a recent article, like from Consumer Reports I think. I think it was potential sales lost, because Acura's sales were up for 2010.

Chinese market NMS

Too bad we don't get the cool looking xenon/l.e.d. headlights in the U.S. I'm sure VW is saving yet more money there too :t-crazy2:
