I mean why pay as much for either the 5er or E class, if you can buy a Lexus ES instead? But then why pay for an ES, when you could get an Accord or a Camry?

E 220d € 64.320 vs 520d € 59.750.
So if the mentioned € 20.000 are correct, the E has for circa € 15.500 more on additional extras. One of them being the air suspension that comes obligatory with rear wheel steering, costs € 3.320. The super screen costs € 1.773. Two mentioned which the 5er doesn’t have on offer. Furthermore it has nappa leather that comes with the leather package, another € 3.320. The 5er is, if I heard correctly, equipped with the standard vegan stuff.

That alone makes the E € 8.320 more expensive.

Thomas mentioned that the particular test cars were priced at 104K Euros for the E-class (a 40K increase on the base price with options which seems OTT) and the 5-series cost 84K which then is 25K addition in options compared to base price. I would love to know where on earth that extra 40K comes from in the E-class.

Just for interest I went to Mercedes German website and then selected an E220d AMG spec and there are actually 4 different equipment packages that you can choose.

Looking at the video it seems that the options on Thomas car was linking up to the 19.010,25 Euro AMG Line Premium Plus package.

No in the review he stated at least twice that the E class doors were better finished than the S, which is just plain nonsense.

I don't doubt the FL S is going to adopt the upgraded horizontal architecture for the dashboard.

I haven't yet sat in the W223, but just by looking at the rear door trim, it is way more luxurious than the W214. It has pleated leather and also more elaborate armrest with thicker padding on the rear doors.

Bold statement perhaps, but I consider this to be the best looking E/mid-sized Benz ever.

Thomas mentioned that the particular test cars were priced at 104K Euros for the E-class (a 40K increase on the base price with options which seems OTT) and the 5-series cost 84K which then is 25K addition in options compared to base price. I would love to know where on earth that extra 40K comes from in the E-class.

Just for interest I went to Mercedes German website and then selected an E220d AMG spec and there are actually 4 different equipment packages that you can choose.

Looking at the video it seems that the options on Thomas car was linking up to the 19.010,25 Euro AMG Line Premium Plus package.
