E-Class W214 [Official] New Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W214)

The sixth generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class executive car is a lineup consisting of three body styles, the W214 sedan, S214 estate, and the X214 all terrain estate, which are vehicles produced by German luxury vehicle manufacturer Mercedes-Benz Group since 2 May 2023.

So the substance is there is what I’m getting from the informed press. I think that he’s right about Mercedes needing to go back to talking about the substance and less about some stupid app in the screen. This type of mesg is coming from all angles it seems. Will they listen? All the E needs now is some high end switchgear for everyday functions so you don’t need the screens to operate basic things. The W222 had it just right. Now is the time to return to that. The E’s chassis seems to be one of Mercedes’ best ever at the ride and handling compromise.

Fully agree. That and taking care of other exterior details like rear exhausts and more variety of wheel selection.

I hope they significantly remodel the interior for the facelift. The Mercedes design boss has apparently gone on record saying they're gonna bring back high quality physical controls, but they're not going to complete abandon digital luxury.
They just need to strike the right balance.

I find the 'base' airmmatic on the S such a sublime set up with beautifully judged steering for a vehicle of its size. In sports + it just hustles with disdain, and in comfort it just wafts away. I can only imagine what the more advanced set ups are like.

Mercedes knows how to deliver ride and handling when they put their effort into it. Sometimes, it just seems like their development budgets have been focused elsewhere.

They had the perfect mix with the W222.

Some of the pre FL S W222 buttons looked and felt cheap to me. And the front doors felt hollow just around the speaker housing.

I honestly do prefer the overall feel of our W223. It doesn't look as opulant, more technical in fact, but it still looks elegant and expensive and feels a but plusher than the W222 in some areas, with more padding in the doors and softer arm rests etc. The seats are even better. It's all really really subjective between the two IMHO.

And terrible as it may sound, I'm probably offering a slightly younger view point on the S, than a lot of S drivers we hear from. I'm a bit of a tech whore. I'm incredibly impressed when I look to the rear view mirror it knows which one I'm looking at. Or when the rear blind winds down because I've looked back. Or the greeting with my name when it recognises my face and adjusts everything to my likings. Don't even get me started on the spectacular interactivety of the Augmented HUD.

I really REALLY miss the Benzes from the 1990s and the 2000s.. all those switches with slabs of Walnut wood and pleated leather… best of all used to be the light amber glow of the limited digital displays…

How cheap does the cabin feel?

Not really. It's actually a big step up from the W213 in terms of build and IMO some areas of finish as well.

Yes less money has been spent on the door card designs and trims, but the finish is what is expected and the build solid. And the dashboard really is a delight to see and interact with.

Mercedes has put a lot of thought into this car and tried to go above and beyond not just in terms of ride, refinement etc, but actually creating an ambience of digital luxury. I don't think any other car in this class is offering a 4D sound system (comprising some sort of actuators in the seats) with intelligent LED patterns. If the LEDs are too much for you turn them off, but the W214 is a very pleasing cabin to be in.

Imagine the refinement if they would have make an electric version.

I don't believe we're going to get the E53 Wagon, a shame since we did have the E63 Wagon.

Its a shame, can only get the E450d which is by no means a bad car - the OM656M is a great 3-litre diesel. However, it would be nice if we could get the petrol E450 too.

In a dreamland somewhere I wish they also made a V8 E560 :(...
The E450d could be the pick of the range to be honest. It is the 3rd fastest model in the range, only 0.8sec slower to 100 than the E53 and only 0.3sec slower than the petrol E450. It uses 27% less fuel than the E450 petrol in the combined cycle and has massive low down torque.

It's a great car no doubt. The engine is smooth as butter, and very robust.

Still, it would be nice to have the petrol option. I don't understand why it's not even offered.
