E-Class W214 [Official] New Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W214)

The sixth generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class executive car is a lineup consisting of three body styles, the W214 sedan, S214 estate, and the X214 all terrain estate, which are vehicles produced by German luxury vehicle manufacturer Mercedes-Benz Group since 2 May 2023.

IMHO, no decisive winner in this contest. BOTH are the current standards for upper executive class sedans and are so closely matched in the sum of attributes. It becomes a matter of personal taste and brand loyalties. I'd prefer the W/S214 solely on the basis of it being somewhat more compact than the genuinely excessively large G60/61. Things will become interesting when and if Audi FINALLY manages to present something new in terms of competition.
These latest 5 and E-class models are extremely closely matched in most disciplines. I have yet to see, sit and drive a W214 to make comparisons with my W213 and also have not sat inside the G60 but have seen one up close and I wasn't impressed by its styling and size, but I would certainly like to put that on the radar in my next trip back to South Africa, as the W214 has just been launched there about a month ago or 2. The scary thing of these new cars is their prices. The new W214 is twice the price I paid for my W213 and the version sold in SA comes in different packages with the base having 18inch wheels and no super screen.

There was nothing track focused about the SL65 Black Series, apart from the looks, if I'm honest. That didn't start really happening until the SLS Black Series.
But anyway, we know it's for track sports cars, but we want AMG to do something special with the E63 just for the fun of it.
Things started to improve from there with the SLS. The SL65 was basically a showman`s car.
Yes, It would be great if Mercedes AMG actually invested in extra high-performance sedans and coupe models to compete with the BMW CS models. "The Hammer" designation as before, or just C73, E73, S73 AMG with 680ps-780ps from the M177 V8 for all models, 4-seats, 4-Matic Plus, larger brakes, and other more aggressive bits. That would be exciting and the turnover in profits would be good if you want to fantasize practically.

I mean we know for certain that if they make this hypothetical 1750kg E73 with 730PS/900Nm, with 4 sport seats, and a slightly more bespoke interior, they would sell every single one of them at almost whatever price they want.

Interesting review and comments around interior where there has been a real slip in quality in the new 5 Series.

"The E-Class further pulls ahead with the quality of its interior materials. Where it seems to largely halt the slipping standards in Mercedes cabins, the 5 Series seems to kick it off at BMW.

That the decorative speaker grilles are laser-cut metal in the Mercedes and plastic in the BMW is the most obvious, but the 5 Series’ very plain window switches, swathes of gloss black and clear plastic and the unsubstantial and plasticky gear selector show BMW is on a hardcore cost-cutting drive. While the E-Class is guilty of some of these sins, it grates more in the BMW."

One aspect that strikes me personally is that the W/S214 never appears to look "odd". Maybe a bit "boring" in the most basic of configurations, but otherwise handsome in a "conventional" way and very elegant and/or athletic in "splurge spec". On the other hand, the G60/61 looks downright "weird" in basic specification. But spec'd more lavishly (rims and colors are of essence), it can be immensely striking. Very modern and "tech-y". Again, really a matter of personal taste.

100% agreed.
Make it a lightweight, super special car. 1750kg or something. Replace all the steel components with aluminium/carbon. They can use all their fancy suspension tech along with the light weight to give it a great breadth from comfort to race.
730PS M177 - keep the cross plane - don't think they need the flat plane crack unless they give it a trick exhaust and really want to maximise the engine response.

Will cost more than a Ferrari and will be deader than dead on arrival.
Absolutely ridiculous to even contemplate such an idea.

It's like asking for an NA V10 in the M5 again. Sure it can be done, if you're willing to spend 400k on a 5 series and BMW finds a market for such a car......which they won't of course.

Let a guy dream man....
They could probably put out an M5 CS competitor that doesn't cost $400k, though.

Well if BMW can do this with the 3.0 CSL and also M5 CS and M3 CS models that cost 150K to 200K and people are scooping them up like crazy despite not been electric cars, why not. Nowadays rich people are more than willing to buy anything that is special/low volume and Mercedes dont have a special car in the $250K to $1mill price bracket.

The E-Class sedan and estate, the CLE, the SL and AMG GT are currently the absolute "sweet spots" of M-B exterior design. Honorable mention goes to the S-Class, but its getting on a bit. M-B desperately needs to fix the designs of their electric offerings. But the recent sightings of the electric C-Class and AMG 4 door GT prototypes are leaving me optimistic.

It will be ugly. Maybe slightly less ugly than EQS but nevertheless ugly. It looks like it's overweight, an obese looking unsporty car.

What's so difficult about designing a three box sedan with an electric motor? I don't get how this car can look worse than an i4 considering it's sitting on a BEV-only plattform.

At the end of the day, it all comes down to a matter of how one personally perceives it. For the very most part, the perception is subjective. Personally, I do not perceive the prototype to be exceptionally pudgy or ungainly. In fact, I find the prototypes proportions to be less ungainly to those seen on those Audi A6 etron Sportback prototypes. Then again, when the camouflage is finally removed, it will be the details that can ultimately make or break these designs. The results may be surprisingly delightful...or...absolutely repulsive.
We shall see soon enough.
