Did you really have to sully an informative post with a stupid childish barb? Is respecting some good competition really that tough?

Wow, what's going on with you? You call my comments stupid and childish? Sunny, I don't know why you want to bash around but I can assure that my comments in this thread are everything but childish. I just want to discuss how Porsche answers the competition to it's greatest rival, the GT-R, ok? The GT-R is one great car. It's cheap (compared to it's competitors), it's heavy - and/but it's damned fast. It's a lot of technic and electronics making the GT-R this fast. Torque Vectoring is one component of the whole package. This is what I want to talk about.

Edit & BTT: Has someone more information regarding PTV? Seems that the Porsche Torque Vectoring uses the brake system whilst the Audi Sports Differential works with a 'real' multi-disk (Lamellenkupplung). After one day on the track the Porsches rear brake is probably trash.

The center lock rims are amazing and very Carrera GT-ish.
I very much like those white backlights too. That's optional now or what??

Ditto.

The one with the old controls is fugly though, and what's with the big PDK inscription above the Airbag?? Tacky...:t-crazy2:

I suppose the nice steering is optional? It doesn't come with the SC package, as only the car on the top with the ugly wheel has it, and not the one with the nice and sporty new wheel...

In Germany, the new sports steering wheel is available for 416,50 EUR (PDK paddles: left paddle > up - right paddle > down).

PTV is available for 1.309 EUR, the "Sport Chrono Paket Turbo" (sport chrono watch, overboost (+50 Nm = 700 Nm), dynamic engine brackets,...) costs 4.034,10 EUR (at the moment the price for Porsche Tequipment parts are rising in an inacceptable way... a sports exhaust for the Cayman costs ~1.000 EUR more than two weeks ago :t-crazy2:).

Any word on the mechanical operation of PTV? Porsche lists a mechanical limited slip differential in the press release but no real word on the operation of the rear axle. Does it use the superimposed planetary gearset like ZF's torque vectoring diff or is it just another braking system complement to an existing mechanical LSD?

Sorry for the quick O/T question, but I'm trying to catch up on some P-Car knowledge, and have been lusting after 996 Turbo's with how relatively good the deals can be had on them these days.

If you knowledgeable Porsche folk were to consider buying either a 997 Carrera, or a 996 Turbo, which would you go for and why? Also, is there any good place to ask this? Or any good write-ups which focus on the pros and cons of each, in comparison with each other? Thanks.

996 Turbo. In its day it was regarded as the single best all-round car by many car publications. Apparently, it's still a life changing experience to drive even this older model.

Nice, yeah I really don't think I could ever get a regular 997 over a 996 Turbo. I'm just wondering more-so if there are any major technology/reliability/safety, etc. improvements in the 997 which would make it a worthy competitor to buy, aside from just being a newer car.
