I see I'm not going to convince you that it isn't so bad...lol!!!

:D

Man, i was really pissed off when my car arrived and when i've noticed that even with all options inside, they didn't remove that part or put something better instead. :t-banghea

Anyway one last question, were there buttons there in the past or something?

M

Nope, nothing.

Re: Officiall Thread: Facelifted 5-series + M5 Touring

I'm over the auto show season now so I'll probably go looking at some cars just to be looking so I'll add the 08' 5-Series to the list. I want to see it up close now.

Not the best quality pic, but anyways, here's a quick shot i took of it:

:t-banghea You see how crappy and ugly that thing looks!

Re: Officiall Thread: Facelifted 5-series + M5 Touring

I can't see the pic for some reason.

Re: Officiall Thread: Facelifted 5-series + M5 Touring

Yep, yeah it does stand out with the aluminum trim, moreso than with the wood IMO.

Re: Officiall Thread: Facelifted 5-series + M5 Touring

The part of the interior that i HATE most!

Re: Officiall Thread: Facelifted 5-series + M5 Touring

Interesting. Must have something to do with protecting the wood or something, dunno??

M

I think it is because the piece of wood in that area is exactly the same shape in every 5er, regardless of transmission and before and after the facelift. Because SMG and Steptronic transmissions have a different shape than the manual, they put the piece of plastic there to fill up the holes. That is probably cheaper than a differently shaped piece of wood in every 5er...

Even if it's so, do you think that's ok?

I mean, we're talking about, small, very small piece of wood, here, not the entire trim for f sake!

Re: Officiall Thread: Facelifted 5-series + M5 Touring

No, I don't think that's ok. But at least it looks ten time better than the pre-facelift with auto tranny now :usa7uh:

Oh ok, I see. Yeah that is cheaper than cutting a different shape of wood for each car. Even the might BMW has to cut costs somewhere I guess. The day Mercedes started putting blank buttons in cars without certain options I knew the cost cutters had gotten their way.

Re: Officiall Thread: Facelifted 5-series + M5 Touring

I have just seen this thread talking about the plastic to cover up the different size of the gear lever unit..
Looking at the E46, it's actually the same, the whole space is only used up with manual, with the steptronic automatic, it is still a plastic covering it, then with the DSG option, it is aluminum that covers up for the unused space. Every car is like that isn't it? Who will be bothered to put a different piece of trim just because one is auto and one is manual? The preFL was actually the same, but there were PRNDS display on the side which looks like the whole space has been used.

Re: Officiall Thread: Facelifted 5-series + M5 Touring

lOl, the f/l 5-series front spolier is exactly like that of the 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Right down to the same (lens) shape of the foglights. I always thought something looked very familiar.:D

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
