IRL photos and all, still a awkward front end. This time around I am 'afraid' of the next Mercedes-Benz A-Class in this segment, from spy photo's it looks the real sporty part - elongated bonnet and slim glasshouse VERY sporty and youth orientated. Even the Audi A3 concept was received with loud applause:eusa_thin

BMW AG did definitely not "adapt to competitors" like Kay Segler said, regarding this sector of the premium compact market....and this time around did M-B in particular caught the competition by surprise???

I'm in France right now, and I saw a new 1-Series. Still looks hellacious from the front, but from the side, etc. it looks fine (for what it is). There's a lot of curvy sculpting going on, on the side.

An American in Paris?:) Did you read my post previous to yours? IMO the next A-Class is set to rock this segment IMO.
:t-cheers:

^^ Talk about a culture shock :D
Hope you have a good vacation K-A!! Take an E class taxi while you're here in Europe. Will not be hard to find one ;)

As for the 1er....meh. The front lights are a horrible mistake. 5er GT has ten times better front.

HAH! I know, and I can't even speak French! I'm in trouble! :D Fortunately my Girlfriend is fluent. Gonna try and check out the acclaimed Benz Dealer/Museum that's apparently here when I get a chance. I wish I could make it out to Stuttgart at some point though! And yes, and I agree with you about the A! I'm just a little iffy about its lines, but so far, it's actually looking great! I can even possibly get behind them bringing it out to the U.S.

Klier: Tell me about it! Ant thanks! Seeing all these Euro cars is surreal! It's like a real life version of CGF Pictures. :D

I gotta say, seeing European Cars in Europe is different to me somehow, they look even better here, like they know that they're home. At the same time, people don't seem to maintain the appearance of their cars as well. Yeah, I've seen some E Taxis, I actually think it's pretty awesome to see that. What's funny is that I haven't even seen a regular non-Taxi E driving around, and I may have seen 1 F10. I see a lot of Audi's though.

My Cousin took me around in my "Taxi for the day" in his Jaguar XF. I gotta say, those cars are pretty awesome! I almost bought one before my W212 (after my W211).

K-A, you know what France is famous for, apart from smelly cheese? I suggest you take a look at the three french car brands, Citroen, Peugeot and Renault. If you have a chance, give a Renault Clio Sport (2.0lt) a good try. It's mind-blowing!

:t-cheers:

So Estoril Blue is back again?
Montegoblue and Estorilblue, what are the differences.

Seriously Dude... You are letting the side down. You know what the differences are between Estoril and Montego? Estoril is just what has gone before but with a little more tint . Montego is a richer color.

I meant Monte Carlo, the one on the new M5. So estorilblue is back then.

Translation:

First, the new 1-Series looks much better /live/ than it does in the photos! The interior is really beautiful! Unfortunately 18", 19" or even 20" wheels are needed for a coherent look. The front looks good (like on 5-Series), the rear is not bad but it's similar to VW Polo.

IMO too small wheels are the "main problem" why the proportions do not work /well/. I didn't check but I think they were 16". Small wheels don't go well with the headlights, which looks like they've been taken from 5er.

Otherwise, I was pleasantly surprised by the /look of/ the car ... especially since I almost fell off my chair when I saw the first photos /of the new 1er/.

Sucks that you need at least 18 wheels. It costs money and affect the ride. 17 is the perfect size to me and my wallet.

17" is imo too small on any BMW, 1er included. 18" is where it starts imo.

I wonder when I will see the new 1er for the first time. It's going to be really interesting, that's for sure.

IMHO I totally agree Klier. 18" has to become the smallest rim size, even entry level c-segment cars come with 17" optional wheels these days.
19";20" and 22" should be the optional offerings at BMW - and it's up to BMW AG's purchasing guru's to get OEM wheel and tire suppliers to get pricing inline.

Its retarded you need to pay extra to get 18 wheels just to make the fronlights looking smaller. Stupid!

7 th september, new 1er is coming to swedish dealers.

I live close to BMW Netherlands HQ, so I think I will see it a lot sooner than September.

I seriously do not like the rear bumper on the M packet, front looks awsome.
