K-A, you know what France is famous for, apart from smelly cheese? I suggest you take a look at the three french car brands, Citroen, Peugeot and Renault. If you have a chance, give a Renault Clio Sport (2.0lt) a good try. It's mind-blowing!

:t-cheers:

Lol. I've actually went to Dealerships of all 3 (didn't even try to, as they're everywhere it seems), and it's interesting to see these new-to-me cars. The Clio is EVERYWHERE out here. There's also another car with the most hideous Hatchback butt I've ever seen, that is perhaps the most common car out here (can't remember the name now). Also, French drivers SUCK!!!!

It is kind of nerve wracking now, to see all the Benz Taxi's. I mean, on one hand, they look so gorgeous and appropriate next to all the French/European architecture (it really gives an American a good eye opening impression of how these cars are designed, and where they are intended to really look appropriate), on the other, I can't wait to get back to America to once again see them NOT being used as Taxi's, lol. I do find it warming and confident inspiring to know that what Americans see as somewhat fickle and troublesome cars (Germans), are used for such rigorous and strong tasks.

its pretty cool that they actually use the same production line for the old and new generation
that really shows how flexible they have become

Sucks that you need at least 18 wheels. It costs money and affect the ride. 17 is the perfect size to me and my wallet.

They do. Designers need to get a grip and stop designing models that only look decent on huge wheels. You're left with the predicament:
* Buy the car with standard small wheels, have a nice ride, but an average looking vehicle.
* Buy the car with upgraded wheels, sacrifice the ride comfort but improve the looks.

Easily recognisable as a Ier with the bonnet open, there is no sound insulation on the inner part of the bonnet. Same with the X1...is it weight or cost saving? The latter IMO..

Changes to rear suspension components clearly visible or is it just that the lower wishbones has been painted black?

Now this photo works for me! Looks very good, sporty and the tail lamp cluster look less VW Polo.

The rear lights look like they are stickers! :D Why not incorporate them in the design?

They partly look like that because that image is completely computer generated. It's not a real car. The lights will definitely look more part of the design when you see the real car in 3D.

Image could have been from Forza Motorsport 4. Completely.

New methods of communication – the BMW Group presents its first music video

11.07.2011

Munich. The BMW Group and its brands BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce stand for innovation. This has long been true of more than just the areas of design and technology. New pathways are constantly being opened up and new trends set in the field of communications. And so it is only logical that a new audiovisual approach has also been sought for communication about the new BMW 1 Series."The process of manufacturing a car is an exciting one, and so it has already been filmed many times over. As an innovative company, the BMW Group wants to show that the product also ion of a vehicle can also be presented quite differently – without the authenticity of the processes getting lost in any way", says Bill McAndrews, Head of Communication Strategy, Corporate Communications, at the BMW Group.

"check my machine" is a film project which has been created in a close collaboration between the BMW Group's Electronic Media Department and creative Munich artists Jonas Imbery (Gomma Records) and Mirko Borsche (Bureau mirko borsche). The Brainstormclub and Eyetrip are responsible for production.

The soundtrack, composed by Jonas Imbery, could also be played in the world's most popular clubs. "The appeal of the work was to develop a viable, independent, recognisable composition that only makes use of vehicle sounds, such as the blinkers, GPS voice, closing noises, seat belts, doors, safety alarm, to name but a few. The visual resolution at the end shows clearly that the percussive elements such as the bass synthesizer, the vocals and the melodies were produced by the vehicle itself."

Mirko Borsche adds: "We wanted to set a new standard, to create a unique visual language and to stand out clearly from how a classic image film looks. The aim was that the film should become an independent, artistically challenging work.

"Various visual design resources were used to transform the technical environment of the production halls into an emotional world. To separate the machines and robots from the rest of the area, we worked with selective focus, carefully targeted lighting and reflexions incorporated through crystals", explained Daniel Falk from Eyetrip.

3D 3D 3D..... maybe you need to wear 3D glasses for the new 1er to look attractive ??

Hmm, yeah, for a 2D picture maybe... In real life you don't need them ;)
Seriously though, I can't wait to see this thing here in real life....

Don't like it. Didn't like the old one and this new one has done little to change that option.

I have been in the same boat. Though, I do think the new one looks better and looks like what the original one should have looked like, I feel there is something missing. I do approve of the new one and like it, but not enough to consider purchasing one if I was in the market for a 1er or a car in that segment.

It's better but it's still not good looking and part it's problem is the it has a nose from a much bigger looking car. The only angle I actually like a lot is the rear, it's much better than the old one and it's interior is a real step in the right direction, looks more 5 series than 1 series in there.
