C-Class (W204) Official Mercedes-Benz W204 C-Class Discussion Thread

The Mercedes-Benz W204 is the third generation of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. The W204 platform was also used for the E-Class Coupé (C207). Model codes: W204 (sedan), S204 (station wagon / estate), C204 (coupé). Production: March 2007 – March 2014 (sedan), February 2007 – March 2014 (station wagon), 2011–2015 (coupé). Model years: 2008–2014, 2012–2015 (coupé)
Received an email from MB Australia re the W204 and I must say I'm very disappointed that if I order the AMG kit, I have to have a black interior!! I can't even have the 2 tone interior offered in the Avantgarde!! :t-banghea :t-banghea .

Red C300

Glad to see that the red C300 (with MBUSA New Jersey dealer plates) has the beige interior since that's what I want or nothing. Those wheels won't work for me, though. I'm told the 18" AMG wheels are a $1200 item but they are the best looking.

What I have found out is that some of the new items will not be available in the US, thanks to the marketing geniuses at MBUSA. No flashing brake lights or the multi-mode headlights but just the usual Bi-Xenons, at a price of course. Still no prices although Automobile magazine's new issue thinks the Sport's base price will be just under $40K. What the four option packages will cost hasn't surfaced just yet. They are described at linkprice.

Other web sites forbidden??

So I type in another web address and it comes out as a link to an Asian website. Once more.

No flashing brake lights are due to US law. MB was approved to test them in the US on the S and CL I belive but they have not been approved for all models.

CAR tests the Sport model

My May 2007 copy of CAR magazine from London arrived today in Seattle and it contains a seven page 1755 mile road test through Germany in a white C350 Sport. They liked it except for the ride. They said their test car (S CC3923) had the Advanced Agility package which is not supposed to be offered until the 2009 model, so I thought. My guess is that the choppy ride they didn't like might possibly be blamed on the tires which they revealed to be Pirelli P-Zero Rossos, 225/40-18 front and 255/35-18 in back. No wonder. 35 series tires don't have much give to them what with the short sidewalls. Which reminds me of the BMW M3 problem of bent wheels and damaged tires from potholes due to the low aspect ratios, similar to these sizes.

In addition, I checked the prices of tires (The Tire Rack - Your performance experts for tires and wheels) in those sizes compared to the 17 inchers on my AMG wheels (225/45-17 & 245/40-17) and the 18 inch price is 57% higher at 1052 US Dollars for four. These numbers are for my tires, Bridgestone RE050A Pole Position which replaced the Bridgestone S0-3.

So, my idea of specifying the not-available-for-the-Luxury-model AMG 18 inch wheels which look so good has been torpedoed by the bad ride comments, even if I could get them.

They commented many times on the excellent brakes and they liked the 7-speed autobox.

All in all, a very good report.

Yay! it's out and about! can someone tell me what's so diff't on the US C-class from the Euro-spec one? I can't tell...:eusa_doh:

The US-spec C-Class will have those orange reflector lights on the sides of the bumpers among other differences. That's the biggest visual difference though. :usa7uh:

RLE,

I see you have put a deposit down in the Seattle area. I am curious which dealership you recommend. I live south of Seattle and have stopped by both Larson in Fife and Phil Smart in Seattle. Have not been over to Barrier recently (long time ago for my 85' 190e) and have only heard radio ads for the new Lynnwood dealership.

Have you found anything that really differentiates the local delears on price/service, etc.?

Thanks for any info

Re: First Official 2007 C Class W204 Pics, Cont'd Thread 5.

BMW interiors have a sense of belonging..for example, the 3 er looks quite similar to a 5 er and then a 7 er...check out a 6 er and you will see the same design philosophy. That is what we call branding.. For example, cover a BMW dash completely with plastic but keep that same interior design and you will immediately know its a BMW.

Can't say the same for Mercedes. Somewhere down the line they lost their way..Check out an S call and a CL and you will see class. Check out an A class, R class, C class and you will see that it doesn't represent the S, CL or even each other. If there was no 3 pointed star on a Merc C class dash, you can easily mistake it for a Daewoo or a Chevrolet...

Can't say I disagree with that. But then, interiors which don't remind you of its sisters and brothers have their merits too.

I guess the one thing that right now annoys me in the pictures is the lack of wood. I wish there was more wood (or aluminum in sport) in the interior. Much like the ML there is a lot of black space on the passenger side of the dash. They have put a thin strip of chrome, but some wood would liven up the interior. If they put a strip like the strip that the GL has that the ML doesn't I think it would make a big difference in the interior.

I do think though, that I will hold my opinions until I actually see it in person.

Re: First Official 2007 C Class W204 Pics, Cont'd Thread 5.

Mirage - Fair comment. I guess I am disappointed as I really wanted to buy this car. I checked out the W203 but then decided to wait from the W204 to come out so that I will have the latest Merc in the market. I also expected the interior to look at least like the S or the CL which I thought was the new Merc interior design philosophy ( I still like these above any other interior in the market currently). I am sure the W204 is a great car, its just that the interior does not appeal enough to me to chose this car.

Finally, I chose the 3 er E90 which appeals to me in every way - design, driveability, experience etc....

Can't say I disagree with that. But then, interiors which don't remind you of its sisters and brothers have their merits too.

Mercedes or BMW it really doesn't matter. What matters is the personal prefrence of what someone wants. I have always drove Mercedes - Benz, so did my father and my grandfather. As much as I like the 3 - er so much I hate it (the interior sux to be honest and the rear without the BMW badge can also be mistaken by some Korean or other rising sun land brand).

The new C class is much more bald moving than any before that anyone who is into MB knows. I admit that the interior could too be more ALU/wood configured but it's not. And the back is much more apealing that the one on 3-er.

What I'm trying to say here is that both of these companies have won the EU and US now they must win over the Asian market because it is one of the fastest growing. So no doubt that both companies want a pice of that jummy pie and for that reason they must design cars that are appealing to the World not just one continent.

As far as the similarity of the interior goes ... if I would own a 7 series or 5 series for that matter I would be very dissapointed if someon with a 3 - series would pullover beside me and had almost the same interior - think about it 100.000 € against 50.000 € ... no thanks - i want differences big time.

I am not trying to bash on BMW but like I said earlier - It all comes down to personal preference - mine is and will allways be a three pointed star.

I have a production date....

My salesman called me today to say that my car will be built between June 10 and June 20. He also said that base prices are still unannounced so I have to order on faith. What BS.

Further, the C300 comes with one and only one 17" wheel. Even though the Sport version has two AMG wheel options, the Luxury offers nothing but the standard wheel which is not all that attractive, in my eyes. It looks like the Sport version offers only two interiors, black or black and gray. Dismal and cheerless.

I looked at an S550 this week which had the all-glass Panorama roof at $1000 but I'm not sure I'm interested. When the sunroof panel is open, it perches on top of the roof and it might be noisy plus if a flying pebble strikes the leading edge of it, it could be damaged. Guess I'll pass on it.

I'm going to order the P2 package, the Multimedia package plus leather (Beige) and the trunk drawer and metallic paint. This car might end up being cheaper than my '01 C320 but it's not really exactly what I want. But, MBUSA has an arrogant take-it-or-leave-it attitude so if I want a car I have little choice.

I will be meeting with the salesman this week to semi-finalize the car and find out what the cut-off date is for changes.

Sure wish I could take factory delivery on this one.

Re: Delivery date falls through

I should have known better. My sales guy called this AM and told me that when he submitted my order for that June 10 production slot it was kicked back. Seems that the Multimedia system option cannot be supplied until September. And yet I think have seen the Navigation screen in all kinds of the cars the world over including the NY auto show etc. This must be yet another MBUSA screwup.

Re: I have a production date....

Are you able to specify any different options with factory delivery?

It really is too bad that you cannot get the beige interior with the sport version. If it were available I would order the sport in red with beige. As it is I will probably end up with black with black/grey interior.

Did the dealer have all of the options, colors, etc. available?
