S-Class (W221) [Official] Mercedes-Benz S-Class W221 Facelift

The Mercedes-Benz chassis code W221 is the fifth generation S-Class, produced from August 2005 until June 2013. The W221 S-Class was unveiled at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show as the successor of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W220) and the predecessor of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222).
I'm thinking now that they may wait until the L.A. show or even the Detroit show if the 2011 model year is where they're going with this. Don't know whats going on now.

No, the CL will probably debut at Frankfurt, maybe in time for a March US debut. Then again, nothing has been confirmed or denied. It does seem quite odd that the S gets unveiled in April and the S-Coupe (CL) hasn't been shown.

No, that's not quite odd, because, if you remember, the S-Class W 221 was introduced in July 2005, whereas the CL followed one year later, in July 2006. So, they were not unveiled at the same time, and that's why now their FLs weren't shown to public at approximately the same time.:usa7uh:

You're right the CL and S didn't debut at the same time, but they both went on sale here in the U.S. for the 2007 model year. The S in January of 2006 and the CL in the fall of 2006, both 2007 models. That is why the timing is suspect here because in order for the CL to be a 2010 model here in the U.S. it needed to debut already over the summer to go on sale here in the fall as a 2010 model, clearly they're doing something different this time around. A Frankfurt debut means a late winter or spring 2010 U.S. on sale date as a 2011 model which will be the first time they've done that, that I know of for the S and CL.

I saw a S 400 Hybrid about a week ago. The facelift looks great. The average-Joe probably can't point out the changes, but all added up they give a nice refresh for the S-Class. You hardly notice that there are no body-strips on the rear lights anymore. :usa7uh:

Awesome pics, thank! Funny how that dealership has ads for the Smart Coupe still on their window... Maybe they should think about pealing them off!

Didn't notice…lol…well, the dealer belongs to Boris Becker…probably he doesn't know, that it isn't for sale anymore. :D

Well the rims are quite okay…especially since we all remember the standard rims on the W220…but these already costs an aditional 1.700 €… :eusa_doh:

Lol yea...The W220 basic rims were absolutely horrible. Expensive rims, but very nice...especially if you don't go for the AMG wons.

Yikes, standard W220 rims were just baad. Even the standard early W211 rims were awful.

Does anybody remember the rims for the pre-F.L W220 S600? UGLY and weird, *** were they thinking?

Believe it or not, I loved those rims. Very Sophisticated IMO!

Interesting, lol.

O/T, but I'm so surprised as to how poorly the W220 has aged. I used to LOVE them, and even owned one to honor that. When the W211 came out, I think it refined the look and added a lot more pizzaz and detailing to the design idea, while keeping with that beautiful clean, slick and stealthy formula, that the 220 started to look a bit dull. When the 221 came out, it just put the nail in the coffin for the 220.

Don't get me wrong, I STILL stop and stare when a clean, AMG packaged 220 is near, however overall, it was a new step for M-B design ideals, and they refined it a lot in the following years.

You guys act like Mercedes sedans usually have good looking wheels, they don't....lol. Mercedes' sedan rims have almost always been yawners, part of their nature. You have to get a sport pack or an AMG model to get truly good looking rims. There are exceptions though, the W211 being one at least in the U.S.

Merc, what is happening to your Benz loyalty? You know Mercedes-Benz does everything well! ;)

Honestly, the only rims I didn't like were the W220 rims on the S430/S500 pre-facelift. Other then that the rest are great. They might not be 22inch chrome rims, but they are fine with me.

Yes cynical and exploitive marketing by MB. The standard wheels are always soooooo boring. You do have to spend extra to get anything decent. Which 1/2 the people don't. So you see a lot of benzes on the road with crap wheels. Meanwhile the BMW's are driving around with some stunning footwear. :t-crazy2:
