S-Class W221 [Official] Mercedes-Benz S-Class W221 Facelift

The Mercedes-Benz chassis code W221 is the fifth generation S-Class, produced from August 2005 until June 2013. The W221 S-Class was unveiled at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show as the successor of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W220) and the predecessor of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222).
^Well you know Mercedes-Benz loves to make every dime it can. Just put a few options on the S550 and you'll be looking at a 100k plus price tag.

And the funny part is that in looking at the 7-Series the other day they've adopted the same pricing, a 750Li shoots to 100K easily now. Amazing.

Yikes, standard W220 rims were just baad. Even the standard early W211 rims were awful.

Does anybody remember the rims for the pre-F.L W220 S600? UGLY and weird, *** were they thinking?

The pre-FL W211 in Classic trim had some of the ugliest rims Mercedes ever made.

They were called "Toliman". Now they may look like steel rims that were borrowed from a 1980's VW Golf, but they are in fact alloys.

The infamous Toliman was also available for the SLK R170, CLK C208 and the S-Class W220.

Yep, the C208 CLK had them in the U.S. in 1998 and 1998. Some of the most awful wheels ever on a modern Mercedes. Looked to cheap hubcaps.

Years ago I used to think there was some type of engineering reason why Mercedes' wheels were so ugly........NOT!

What's interesting is that I heard/read that in the early 90's the W140 S500 used to cost a $200k. That's S65 territory now :D

I wonder if it's true.

2010 S-Class is a bargain.....(well almost)

When the W140's first appeared in the US in the early 90's, the pricing matched the size of the cars with a 400SE (no misprint - short wheelbase) priced in the mid $80's. The S500 was in the mid 90's. List prices and dealer margins were re-aligned in 1995, with substantially reduced pricing, and initially small or non-existent discounts. Considering it's 20 years later, the S400 at under $90k is quite a bargain, at least pricewise.

Probably it isn't $, but DM - which was the currency in germany at that time. 200.000 DM is about 100.000 € today. Found a pricelist of the W140 though:

Preisliste Mercedes-Benz W140 12/1994

The LWB W140 S 500 was priced with 142.000 DM which is about 73.000 €!

Really? Where did you get that? Should be interesting. A new 325hp gas S350 would be nice too, in LWB and SWB.

The new A8 also has three. How does it work, do you select your prefered mood light when you order the car or can the light be changed inside the car?

Since they're LED's, they shouldn't have limited it to three colors.

Is this what you're looking for, Yaz? :D

Good, that there are only three light options - it would be like with the Philips Livingcolour lights! You could never decide which colour you want in your car and I always ended up with pink… :D … so S-Class interior would be also illuminated in pink colours. :D
