S-Class [Official] Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupé Facelift (C217) 2017-

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class, formerly known as Sonderklasse, is a series of full-sized luxury sedans and coupés produced by Mercedes-Benz. The S-Class is the designation for top-of-the-line Mercedes-Benz models and was officially introduced in 1972 with the W116, and has remained in use ever since. The S-Class is the flagship vehicle for Mercedes-Benz, being positioned above the other Mercedes-Benz models.
Here in Germany, C238s' appear to be far more plentiful.
The opposite is true in Australia, however we are a tiny market so what we see is definitely not an accurate reflection of the global sales trend.

This is what actually horrified me about this years IAA. It was like an eternal shame judging by the exhibits.
Mercedes who normally take over the Festehall only used half compared to when the hall was used. And then stuck most of its exhibits outside like a partner does.

BMW forgone an entire hall and inside loop for a simple stand. It was truly the end of an era at the IAA. No longer are we allowed to celebrate the success of the industry. The auto industry ever since diesel gate has become a pariah. It's no wonder Germany's industrial base is heading for a recession. Especially when you government and other parties are becoming anti-car.

Now the reason may be for cutting back, new areas of marketing and funding the next generation of EV's. And if you have a business interest in the UK stockpiling for the forthcoming Hard Brexit that is going to collapse the entire EU Empire.

A visit to the IAA was about celebrating the might of Germany's auto industry.
It's an event. An event that should be celebrated not be ashamed of.

Thanks Scott for the colour on current state of affairs of the German car industry. It is sad indeed. What is the mood at the middle to higher management at Daimler, BMW, and VAG?

When you make shit you should be ashamed of yourself. Are you Scott, as a German, proud of what VW did with the dieselgate? This people should be in the prison and not at the IAA. Why did the boss of VDA resign? I would give similar reasons to the pope Franciscus resigning -can't handle the shit they all are swimming in.

I am not proud of Diesel Gate. No one is. What grates me is that the usual mob mentality has tarred everyone with the same brush. There is no seperate blame. It's the whole "cartel"
The auto industry is responsible for climate change has become a mantra for the unhinged environmentalists that are given a platform.
However Diesel Gate has probably passed now especially where all hyper space lanes where eventually leading to that small moon(Sorry space station) and The Emperor himself.

Oh and to get back on topic. Rumours at the IAA suggest that the S-Klasse Coupe's demise is for a Maybach branded stand alone Coupe and Cabrio to replace it.

Interesting rumour...So just like AMG built GT 4 door but used E class platform, could we see Maybach's first model based on W223? I think it would be better if they build in house SUV Maybach, because coupes will never be popular as SUVs.

Yes a bespoke SUV, designed right would set the market a fire. I mean the Bentley and Rolls Royce SUVs are almost too ugly to exist, especially the Rolls. The market is there and ready.

I still want one of these.

Saw a metallic beige S560 recently with a red soft top and beige and oxblood leather and light ash trim. My goodness, it was such gorgeous spec.

In person, the Bentayga I found underwhelming, the Cully I found to be a proper Roller.

I think the Cully's biggest weakness, the front, will be properly dealt with when a facelift happens. That said, in it current form, I am not as critical after poring over the design for a good 10 minutes.

Going to really miss this car. It is still one of, if not the most desirable Mercedes-Benz.

Still a beautiful interior.

I know that the SLC will be axed and figured that other couples are at risk however I didn’t expect the S-Coupe to be one of them.

Well there hasn't been an official announcement, but the rumors are strong and the off the cuff comments from some MB execs here and there are even stronger. The consensus is that the next SL will replace the S Coupe/Cabriolet. I guess I'm ok with this if the next SL is stunner.
